just curious. i have the tube pre. how does it compare to the other three pres you mentioned? i'm looking for something to complement it... For a short time, I had all three. Honestly, the tube version is really a beast unto itself. I think the A12 would compliment it best if you're looking for con...

whats the chances of building the tube pre and not getting killed? Pretty high. It was my first high voltage project, and if I'd known then what I know now, I probably wouldn't have left it on the floor in pile right after I built it. At that time, it didn't come with a box, so I had it in so...

I've had both, although my tube was the first gen. LCMP. The tube is higher fi to my ears...more top and generally more balanced, with a HUGE tranny low end. Really sounds like nothing else I've owned/heard. The JFET's top doesn't quite compare, although I have yet to find a more practical/usable di...

I have no experience with the in/out g5 dig. connection, but I'm assuming it comes up in your audio devices configuration. Configure sound by selecting them as default inputs/outputs, and any any application that uses core audio will be good to go. Don't know about clocking, but I'm assuming the out...

Re: Hakko tips
I've built a years worth of kits and cables, and tip is still well shaped and clean.
Here's the one I got...couldn't be happier.

The way the U195 responds to top eq is magical too. The low cut is fantastic. The 'fat' setting is usually worthless to me, as the mic already has fantastic low end...more just sounds too, too mushy to me. I had the u195, the e47, and the e250 up at a shop here in Portland, and the u195 was my immed...

I had logic, and though I thought I would never need to effect parts of tracks, there were a bunch of times I wished I'd had the ability. For all the great flexibility of recording w/o eq, comp, etc...I think it's a pretty fantastic thing to work destructively. It definitely keeps you moving. That i...

The tranzport is the best thing that ever happenned to me, as far as recording drums myself. No more back and forth, ever. Once you know your gear...which pres for OH, snare, etc. and know a typically practical level for them based on your typical performance, recording yourself can be a pretty smoo...
