Regenerating Tape Delay
In Larry's review of the new Paul McCartney record he mentioned that regenerating tape delay is used only once by Nigel Godrich, implying that it is used a lot with Radiohead. Is that the vocal effect that is on Thom Yorke's voice a whole lot (even live)? If so, how do you do it and can it be faked ...

Jeremy, that was a wonderful post. I hate that I've come off as the inexperienced, wanna-be luddite, but if the shoe fits... I'm really not that naive when it comes to recording live classical music. It's the only kind of classical music i've ever recorded. But still I have in my head some mythical ...

to give you an idea of what i'm talking about, check out the new brad paisley album. in my opinion, it's good country, and it doesn't feel pocketed to me, but i know it was... know it was HARDCORE. I listened to some samples from this. Man, that guy can play some guitar. Or did they just make it so...

I guess you got me pegged. You're right, I haven't done much recording for hire, although I have done some. I've recorded a lot of classical recitals and concerts at a college and do understand doing what has to be done to make it sound good. I've also sat in the French horn section in quite a few o...

I guess I could see that. I suppose that's why it will probably always be better to go hear it in the hall. I still think it should be minimal amounts of comp/eq and it better be transparent. I've always wondered about the techniques used on the recordings of the major orchestras. I'd like to think ...

Re: Anatomy of a Recording Session: Symphony
You want to bypass any compressors with classical music, because you want to let the crashing crescendos come through without any squishy coloration. Back in my studio, I load the tracks into Digital Performer, and however properly I did my job, it always takes a bit of processing to get the final ...

I work in a music library, so I looked it up for you. I'm not sure if it's still under copyright or if it's public domain, but here's what I found. The actual title is "The Chinese Fan" and it can be found in the following songbook: Roos, Ann and Alicen White. Brownie's Own Songbook. New York: Roos ...

Re: can someone please give me the definition of Class A?
The way I understand it is to think of our trusty sine wave. In a class A amplifier, the amplifier will amplify the whole wave. In an alternative called Class AB (or push-pull in the hi-fi world) the signal is first split into two parts, the positive voltage and the negative voltage and amplified se...

Charlie Hunter - Come As You Are (Nirvana) Pearl Jam - Driven to Tears (the Police) Brad Mehldau - Still Crazy after all these years (Paul Simon...say what you want) Eels - Get ur Freak on (Missy Elliot) Brad Mehldau - Things Behind the Sun (Nick Drake) maybe not obscure enough, but those are awesom...

Re: Stero Pair Suggestions
It looks like you might be leaning toward large diaphragms, but I could not do with out my pair of Earthworks SR77's. To me, they sound very natural on many sources. They're cardiod.
