Re: Tom mic inside???
My guess would be that permanently mounted internal mics would be mainly for live sound reinforcement. As BJohnson said, there are too many variables for recording. That said, I don't know how you would get a mic inside a tom without these mounting systems, so I guess I haven't told you much. Stephen

Re: Brad Mehldau "Largo"
Man, I also love this album. Still trying to wrap my head around the fact that this is all live. wow. Did you ever notice on "You're Vibing Me" when he goes to the piano solo, it sounds like they just keep using the vibe mics. Then when the head returns (on piano this time) the piano mics are brough...

Re: better cd burning for macs?
Why don't you like Jam? You know the trick with taking one long file, doing your "track markers" in Pro Tools as regions, then dumping the regions into Jam? Sure, Jam's weak for not having track marking tools of its own, but I find this technique to be a decent workaround. Leigh I have Jam. I didn'...

Re: Why isn't phase cancellation a problem in M/S?
I looked, but for the life of me I can't find a copy of the article "M-S Stereo: A Powerful Technique for Working in Stereo." Does anybody know of a link to it, or would I have to buy it from AES? I'm very intrigued and would like to read it.
Thanks

Oh, BTW, have y'all ever noticed that all of Telarc's CD's list the mic's, recorders, wire, etc. that they used? I think it's pretty cool.

Re: Going To The Symphony
if you dig Beethoven and Brahms try Mahler! #9 is amazing. #5 gives the new world symphony a run for it's money to say the least. went to see mahler / cleveland orchestra a few months ago. crammed into a seat...it was great until my legs fell asleep. Mike Man, I'll have to second Mahler. He's my al...

Re: Please tell me what you think
Thank you. The person who mastered it said the same thing about the compression on the vocals. I compressed it on the way in, but not enough because I hate overcompression. I guess I over-compensated for the over-compression. Heh. As to the style, this song is a little different than most of our oth...

Why does the live sound on TV suck?
Maybe someone who does live sound on this scale can help me out. It seems like the sound is screwed up on every large/important musical/sound event I see. Is it really that hard? The Grammy's--this is supposed to be about music, but the sound at last years was awful. Wasn't that the year that Celine...

Re: Makes me want to just cry ...
I've always wished there was something like this for educational purposes. It would be really cool to be able to get completely dry tracks. I imagine this particular thing is pretty watered down and the tracks all have processing on them. Obviously it is good to practice the tracking as well as the ...

Re: M-S Problem
But anyway, if a mic is "bright" within a couple feet, it'll be "bright" further out. All ribbon mics begin developing a gentle proximity effect at a distance of about 6 feet. While adding to the overall warmth of ribbon mics, this proximity effect does not become readily apparent until you?re with...

Re: M-S Problem
No, the R121 is a mono mic, but one "lobe" of the figure-eight pattern is brighter than the other. But this is only at a distance of 2 feet or less, so I don't think this could be the cause.
