The output transformer will provide isolation if you need it and might add some "color" to the sound. Try it, you might like it.
I don't know why the op amp would be changed. John Hardy's are great.

I just discovered an old T.V. repair shop in town here with a bunch of N.O.S. tubes in stock so I'm going to pick up some G.E. 12AT6s tomorrow and give them a whirl. If I were evil, I'd buy everything he has and re-sell them on evilBay as he's letting them go cheap. Oh wait, I am sort of evil... On...

I think it's just a tube buffer in the circuit. How do you like the VLA?

don't mention it. I said a couple of things to KingMetal in an email when we were arranging the mic loan that are worth sharing. re: Tape Op community - KingMetal offered to put up some kind of collateral. I said nah, Tape Op people are good people. Plus it turns out he's in SF, my old home, so I g...

I've used an integrated amp tape outs which did have slightly low levels. I just increased it using the level on the interface. No problem. If your Mcintosh has a tape or aux out it should work fine.

There are USB turntables made for this now also.

I learned this about the clarinet by accident. I was recording a live outdoor show and I had an ATM33a down by the bell. The player took his vocal mic, a Beta 58,and twisted it down to point to the holes. On my myspace there's a recording of it. Alexandria Kleztet. The clarinet is a mix of the two m...

I had a problem with a Dell Laptop because of the small Firewire port. A PCI Express card fixed it. Some other people have not had any problems with their Dells though. Randy Lane told me on another forum he tracked almost 100 shows of the Dream Theatre tour last year. 62 tracks onto a Dell lappy in...

I sometimes use distortion or even a Sonic Maximizer. Also used Ozone harmonic exciter by making a band in the desired range and add harmonics to it.

I use NOS , RCA 12AX7's in my ART Pro Channel & I love it! They have a new version Pro Channel out that is even nicer so they say. I put Mullard 12AX7's in my ART, Pro VLA & that sounds nice also  Dave Huffman :D That's what I wanted to know. I've switched types around many times in HiFis and...

totally want to add, that the VLA (the first one) is another comp i have in the rack. As Mane said above, great for bass and vocals. I just swapped out the Jan Phillips (not stock) for some Mullards and have another sound now. I like what both types of tubes offer. I don't know what the newer VLA i...

Here's some Sunn schematics. I didn't see that model but sometimes they have different names for similar amps:

The 1:2 output transformers are definitely a good idea if you need the gain. I recently built an Eisen 500 kit using input xformer and opamp from a PM2000. I went with no output transformer and it is lower gain that way. On the other hand, it's already got so much color (good) that I don't want more...
