Gotcha!
My system is already quiet, though an oscilliscope might prove me otherwise.
BUT --> Is there a system "health" advantage, for power AND audio?
Should I add these pieces just because, just on principal?
Thanks.

Comparison?? -- IDSS, VHD, HMX
MicPreOp:
PreSonus : IDSS
Solid State Logic : VHD
Audient : HMX
Anybody have data or experience with any/all of these preamp "harmonic" controls?
Thanks!

Hum-remover just because?
HumOp:
Aside from boosting the economy by purchasing gear and extra cables,
Is it "good" to use an Ebtech (or similar) hum remover just because?
Thanks.

Strings for sale
*bump*
Found a few sets where the strings have pierced the bag.
Not swiss cheese, but some aren't 100% sealed.
(curious that I've found legit' new sets to have done this, too)
If you want specific set(s), ask and I can check those bag(s).

Digital connections follow-up
Hey, All. PCI = M-Audio 1010LT Preamp = JoeMeek TwinQ DAW = ACID Pro 6 (only FYI because what the PCI sees, the DAW sees) I am monitoring the inputs via PCI's software VU's. Here's the goings-on: 1. PCI as word-clock master, preamp slaved, preamp S/PDIF out to PCI: Preamp LED confirms external word-...

Clock source
Isn't it "better" to have the PCI's word clock as master? If I use the preamp's clock, would I have to slave the PCI for every additional track recorded to a particular project? I'll try out the "preamp S/PDIF out only" hookup, and re-post the findings. Thought I had the digital signals figured out....

Problem: preamp/PCI with word clock and S/PDIF connections
DigitalOp: I have a preamp and a PCI card, both with word clock and S/PDIF connections...: 1. Word clock output to preamp 2. S/PDIF output to PCI 3. PCI set to "internal clock" 4. "External clock locked" LED lit on preamp 5. VU's show signal is getting into the preamp via XLR. 5. No signal is gettin...

Guitar Preamps
GuitarOp: Only two preamps I've had are the Crate XLP (s/s) and TDP (tube) models. Even though the XLP is useable, the TDP is worlds better, personal opinion. Nice gain range low to high with usable adjustments in-between. Tried a Gainiac, but it had way too much "ssssscrunch" on palm-muting for my ...

Keyboard and DI decisions
Checked the block diagrams. Some of the preamps' DI's don't pass through the transformers. I'll use an external DI to get the full signal path, then. Now another question ... : whether to get a clean or colored external DI? I can always go direct to the PCI if I want the keyboard as-is, though... -Dan

Keyboards through mic pre DI or external DI?
KeysOp: Just recently picked up a portable keyboard...: The output is labeled "phones/output". The master volume affects the output level. The out is 1/4" stereo and I'll need to split to two mono 1/4's for DI's. Question: Aside from being able to try out the different topolgies, is there any advant...

Clients' leg room?
Thanks, All, for the info.

And to flip the coin here...:
Is there a rough guideline for "leg room" at the couch position?
Had to laugh 'cause it sounds funny, but the term KIND OF fits...
Thanks.
