Re: a heavy, spacey instrumental, example of high-volume rec

Pink Floyd/Gilmour influence? Sounds good. You might have fun playing with an Ebow if you like playing without picking. I hope you're wearing ear protection during all this loud playing.

Well done.

Re: To EQ or not EQ?

get the best possible sound starting out. How do you know that the best possible sound is going to fit in the mix? Generally I don't EQ till mix time. That said, we are making changes to the sound without EQ at every step. If you have a guitar amp and you adjust the tone, or adjust the tone on your...

Re: looking for feedback

I listened to 70s theme song. It was a little too left right for my taste, I don't generally like that much stereo separation, it calls too much attention to itself. But that's a personal taste thing. Otherwise sounded good.

Re: Hot off the press........looking for crituques!!

The vocals sound a little SSSssssy to me. Could be my computer speakers. Agree that vocals and snare are too loud in mix. Guitars sound good. During quiet (2:15) spot turn up guitars and down cymbal. Vocals at 2:30 sound tentative. I'd add a drone at 2:50ish, like a keyboard/synth note or some other...

Re: crazy song made with a crappy crystal mic from the 60's

Hey, have you guys heard of email? Anyway, I listened to the song. I actually like the crappy quality a lot. There's a nice harsh distortion that makes it all slightly painful to listen to, in a good way. Anyway, just nice to hear people having fun making music and not worrying about ...

Re: Records or stuff you did in 2003(an appraisal)

Well, I finished and released my new CD of electronic synth music, Reel to Reel and produced a compilation CD of music recorded on the Zoom PS-02 and PS-04 (same link as Reel to Reel). Both came out well. Other than that, lot's of jamming

Vocaloid - computer generated singer, $200

From the New York Times (free subscription required) . . . a new technology called Vocaloid may offer the next best thing. Developed at Pompeu Fabra University in Spain and financed by the Yamaha Corporation, the software, which is due to be released to consumers in January, allows users to cast the...

Zoom PS-04 Review (Warning, gushing praise within)

Since the PS-04 has finally gone on sale today (in the US anyway) I thought I?d post a review for those thinking of getting one. I got a PS-04 early from the US distributor since I run a PS-02 (and now PS-04) discussion board at http://www.2090.org/zoom/bbs/ and so I?ve had time to play around with ...

Re: Portastudio problem! Help me

One idea, my old Yamaha MTX 4-track had an option for recording one track with some sort of synch tone thing I never understood, it was like midi striping kind of sort of. Needless to say, I never touched it. It was the scary button I stayed away from. Maybe you hit the scary button?

Re: How can I fix this mix? Please help

Much better. . . . But what's important is whether you're happy with it. While I agree with that conceptually, in reality I'm too close to the mix to be objective anymore. I agree however that the guitars panned out gives the other sounds more room, and overall I'm happier with the new mix. Thanks ...

Re: How can I fix this mix? Please help

Ok, I've made some changes, got rid of most of the drum rolls, used a different drum kit sound, panned out the guitars. Please let me know if this is an improvement. Thanks
