Yes, but I usually achieve the distance by having the front mic 4-5 ft up whereas the side one is only 2-3 ft up but further out. If both mics are low to the ground, that's going to be tricky unless I pull one far out from the kit? I'm hoping to use these DIY low-level stands (but not that mic) as I...

Where would you suggest? I normally use the traditional Glyn Johns, 1 mic high over the kick pointing down at the beater and one round the side pointing at the snare over the floor toms. I'm thinking (looking from the front of the drums) one to the right of the kick, sort of aligned to the front kic...

Mic'ing drums, 3 mics, down low?

Can anyone help, I was reading a thread, where someone was talking about doing a 3 mic technique on drums, but mic'ing them from below the rack toms, so that there was more drum and less cymbal. I've been scouring the forum all day to no avail, I can't find it anymore. I work with a drummer with ver...

Yes, dummy that I am I turned to Google after I posted

One article said replace both the 2150's and 2252's, but then a follow-up said just 2150's, are the 2252's not in the signal path?

With a soldering iron a few parts and a better power supply, the 3630 can be turned into pretty decent compressor. Look at the Group DIY meta 8) Where be this? I searched DIY for 3630 but saw no meta :? What's a better pwer supply? More AC current, or something that rectifies and regulates offboard...

That does exactly what I want, cool, guess I need to wait for one to pop up for sale.

No, it's for a live rig, more or less a post effects preamp. I'm using the multifx as a preamp, more or less, with a lot of different patches, but I want a set of analog controls in front of it, so I can tweak it on a nightly basis, per room, or whatever. I have preamps but they are all monophonic. ...

1U 3 or 4 Band Stereo Channel Strip style EQ.

Looking for recommendations for something cheap and roadworthy? Basically I run my bass thru a preamp, and then thru a mixer to get the sound I like, it's a cheap mixer, 4 band EQ, hi/low shelving and two fixed mid bands single set of knobs for both channels. Now I want to transfer that sound to a l...

Ah with you now. Unfortunately I do play more than one key at a time, and use the chord buttons. :? I don't have many mics, but I do have a PZM, I wondered if building a little doghouse thing above the grille, and mounting the PZM in the centre would be a good idea? So the PZM is effectively coverin...

Mic'ing an old air (chord) organ

You know one of those little deals with a motor / pump in it, kind of like an electrically powered melodica, and a bunch of major/minor chord keys on the left. Right now I'm just putting a dynamic pointed at an angle (about 45 degrees) right against the top of it, where the grille is for the noise t...

Likewise, constructing an interior 'room' out of heavy duty polythene is no good, as the polythene lets the sound out, but also lets the reflections back in? Would only be useful as an exterior wall a la the Monkeyclaus article?

Sorry for the basic questions, I don't trust my own knowledge here.

Polystyrene no good for acoustic damping?

Am I right in thinking polysyrene is no good for acoustic damping?

I record in a concrete basement, and someone offered me a stack of polystyrene panels they pulled from an outbuilding, I'm thinking it's only use would be as a thermal inulator?

What about these clone mics? What's an OSP Dt610 based on? They're other mics are obviously 57 and 58 knock-offs. Btw, my experience of the Samson Q series, they're alright, those plastic clips are shitty and break easily, and the Q-Kick (like lots of other budget kick mics) doesn't have any respons...
