Re: Connecting an old Lynx Aurora to a modern PC
Update: looks like I need to add Lynx's L Slot to the converter and run it through USB. I'm sure new fangled USB can handle 16 ins and outs with low latency but if a current user wants to reassure my stoneage ass I'd like it

Connecting an old Lynx Aurora to a modern PC
Hi gang.
I'm a stalwart PC user due for my once-a-decade computer upgrade.
Somehow PCI slots in PC towers have disappeared from the market.
How would you connect an older Lynx Aurora to a modern computer without using a PCI card?

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
I just bought my second Symetrix 501 toggle version. I hadn't planned on getting one but I've had an Overstayer SVC on order for about 7 months and I've become fixated on having a grindy stereo thing for parallel drums. I've got a heap of mixing to do so I'm going to try stereo linking a couple 501s.

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
^Those guitars look and sound great. The only thing that kept me from picking one up is the body contour. It felt really flat to me like I couldn't rock and roll strum it without changing my technique or getting a blister on my wrist.

Re: Reverb flavors
I'll go first since it's a broad question. Recently I started coming back to just a pinch of smallish to medium rooms on a lot of my lead vocals. After falling in love with the EMT plate emulations on my TC 4000, I think I started to make some things to dense and foggy with it, and have been appreci...

Reverb flavors
No not a shootout between plugins/hardware. I realized reverb is like much of what we do: it's aesthetic and abstract, yet totally quantifiable. I go through phases and habits, and often do a correction when I realize that some of my impulses when mixing don't always match what I appreciate as a gen...

Re: The Truth Hurts - REW and my room...
My room will never be perfect. Yeah, I feel that. At least with measurement we know our rooms' weak points. This way I won't go crazy boosting underrepresented frequencies with eq when mixing. Kind of suspension of disbelief, but at least based on data. The other thing I realized when I started mea...

^ Yes, to clarify. I made two changes this week. Step one: move speakers, big improvement. Step two: add trapping, small improvement.
Next is step three: more trapping. I hope for another small improvement.

^ Yes.
To put it another way, think of the geometry of the following variables: sound source, wavelength of any specific frequency, distance to a wall.
I can almost imagine putting the speakers on a moving walkway and playing the room modes like a wah pedal.

^ It was radical.
Also means that next time I ask for notes on a mastering job you hopefully won't have to explain how you needed a lot of dynamic eq to tame some wild lows on the bass guitar..... Hopefully.

Re: The Truth Hurts - REW and my room...
^ You caught me- I skimmed the article. Thanks for taking the time to clarify. I think adding a sub might be my final step. Especially one that can be tuned into a narrow frequency range. For now I tried some ideas Morespaceecho was kind enough to share with me. I moved the speakers as close to the ...

They're only a couple feet away, but close to my panels, so they can't move closer to the wall, but I shot the room with them another foot or two out and the null was identical.MoreSpaceEcho wrote: ↑Sun Mar 27, 2022 6:53 amDo that for starters.
How far are the speakers from the front wall?

Re: The Truth Hurts - REW and my room...
The problem is large, physical and very centered as a null around 80hz The only way you'll fix that is with a sub, probably two of them. https://mehlau.net/audio/multisub_geddes/ https://carltatzdesign.com/downloads/elephant-room-article.pdf I'm a little skeptical. Especially considering the second...

Re: The Truth Hurts - REW and my room...
Right now, how's it sound ? Ya know, it sounds okay. But I think a major hurdle in my work probably could have been cleared a couple years ago as I started trying to finish up my space if I would have just taken the plunge into this stuff. I find that I want to peek at my mix on other systems and I...
