Re: How Do I Test A D.I. Box?
Open it up and test directly on the transformer leads?

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
Another returner here! My latest acquisition is a WORKING display for my Juno G , which apparently people other than Roland are now manufacturing on their own. I have a friend doing stuff like that - last I saw he had a modern power supply for the Emulator II, some kind of memory retrofit for a lot...

Re: monitors
Interesting... those Pendragons look like a project a YouTuber was doing recently. I must admit I figured that even though he was pretty realistic about design stuff I thought it looked ridiculous. But using those drivers for mids makes a lot more sense.

Re: Saturation Tools and Tricks
Just using the stock plugins in Reaper myself, but... I do like the "Waveshaping distortion" plugin. A lot of my stuff the past couple of years has been mixing together phone vocals (ie recorded remotely direct to a phone mic), and that tends to help a lot. Now that I've got these old Auratones to p...

Re: monitors
Because I'm a cheapskate amateur in the recording field (my paychecks come from a live sound company), I have a pair of the JBL LSR-305 (first generation). They're really pretty good, measuring fairly flat and seeming pretty predictable. Before them I had a pair of Event thingies which are now down ...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
Scodiddly - I’m running my newer Auratones with a Fosi 50 watt class D mini amp. Seems to do a great job with them. $50 on Amazon. Fosi Audio V1.0G 2 Channel Class D Mini Stereo Amplifier I ended up buying a little thing from Parts Express, their house brand "Dayton Audio". Supposed to be 100 watts...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
I was very happy with the Focusrite Pro support: They are sending me a new power supply free of charge to see if that fixes it, otherwise I can send it in for repair, or get 25% off by turning in towards a new interface. Which I might do at the end of the year. That's great service, especially thes...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
A pair of "barn find" original Auratone 5C speakers - I had to help my Dad move into a retirement home and then there's the house to clean out (I'm getting help for that). Turned up a pair of Auratones in surprisingly good shape, pretty sure we've had those for decades but the drivers are still good...

Re: Tweeter inductance
I don't recall ever seeing inductance as a speaker parameter.
Maybe it's a factory matching thing, like "use this value for L3" on the crossover.

Re: Non-functionnal reel-to-reel: should I fix before selling?
If you want to learn how to do the repairs, then that's a great opportunity to go through that and then sell the machine for more $$$. But I wouldn't recommend paying somebody else unless you *know* there's demand for a refurbished machine. You can probably learn a lot about that possibility just by...

Same about Ann Arbor - every time I'm back for a visit, downtown is even more glossy and expensive.

Otari MX-70 with no remote. Bummer. Teac 80-8 in working condition but needs restoration, Interface Electronics/Stevenson 200 series with 200B modules and 200M master module, and a bunch of dbx Type I units. I have my work cut out for me. I haven't posted in awhile but I'm back due to FB groups not...

I love a Sennheiser 441 on sax.
Failing that, a LDC that's not overly bright is usually a good choice.

Bassist for the Wailers. Incredibly influential musician for my generation.
