Re: Book: American Hardcore

Yeah that book looked somewhat interesting. I browsed through it once and it kept talking about how hardcore was dead. I don't think it died, it just evolved.

Re: drum machine?

I bought a drum macking by ZOOM for only $100 and it sounds amazing. It has tons of different drum sounds to pick from. Some sound very realistic. There is also more electronic sounding drums on there too. You can also program bass lines with it.

Re: Has a new zine replaced the old TapeOp 4-track aesthetic

I used to record on this old Tascam MKII tape cassette 4-track. I recorded a whole album of experimental recordings/music with it. The 4-track stopped working and I upgrade to a DAW. I think though it is much more challenging to make quality sounding recordings with an old 4-track than a DAW.

Re: Behringer DI box

I have Behringer DI box with the "vitural cab". If you record a guitar track by direct by itself it sounds to trebly and thin. Usually I mic the cabnet with a sm57 and run it direct at the sametime and the results are really good. The direct give a nice crispness while the mic and some thickness to ...

Re: know when to say "no!"

Usually I have my girlfriend listen to it and if she doesn't hear anything wrong with it I usually just go with it. When I first got into recording I recorded my friends band at my house. I was all proud of how it turned out. They got a review in the paper for that album a couple out months later an...

Re: Kick Drum miking

Thank you so much for all the helpful techniques. I've only been into recording seriously for about a year and 1/2. I'm learning so much so quick, it's awesome. If you got anymore suggestions, not just with kick but the drumset as a whole keep em coming.

Kick Drum miking

I'm about to record my band. We play agressive progrock. I'm trying to get a kickdrum sound with a lot of attack. I'm using a Shure Beta 52 for the kick, recording on to Pro Tools. Anyway, I've been experiment with a couple of different mic placements, like placing the mic inside the kick drum about...

You should read The Guerilla Music Marketing Handbook by Bob Baker. You can probably find it on Amazon for cheap. Also check out www.TheBuzzFactor.com
