I say "The Mixing Engineer's Handbook" is good. Pretty basic, but good. Also, Mastering audio is another good one but if you don't have a solid foundation some of the info might be over your head. Not that's it's too tough but it's not a great starting book IMO. I'd find somebody in your area who's ...

PS: Don't expect to get paid at the studio you go to if you start know. Expect to intern for free (aka for knowledge)

I've used the CAD E-100 on the bottom of the snare. Works great cause you can get such good placement. I've heard really good things about Blue Dragonfly on snare. Haven't tried it myself but I hear it's great (especially straight into a good pre, into an 1176)

What's your mixing environment like? The majority of the time it's not so much your fault as the room your mixing in, especially when talking about low end. In a smaller room or a room not built for mixing everything below 400Hz (roughly) is usually a lie. Basically because those frequencies do not ...

Try doing it this way:
Take a speaker out of the cab, and hook that straight out of an amp. Put the snare on a stand the way you normally would then place that speaker on top of the snare. Makes it a hell of a lt easier to mic, cause you can do it how you normally would.

Personally I like the Countryman and the Demeter tube DI. Countryman because everything sounds pretty good through, can't really get a bad tone and there's lots of headroom. The Demeter because it's just a good solid sound on bass. The thing that sucks about it though is they can be problematic.

If you can go custom. Search for companies and find snares you like. Talk to the company and see what they can do for you. I wouldn't go to some of the really well known ones as they have to many projects and unless you put down insane sums of money, you don't get worth-while quality.

Also, anybody know of a tab-to-transient hot key yet? Haven't checked in a bit and for some reason I thought someone said they added it.
