if its going to a boring handjob interview, i'd say don't do it at all; but if its going to be informative and insightful w/ loads of talk about gear & recording along the lines of the Dalek interview (or even the Solex interview, becuz apparently both use the Roland VS-1680...) then yeah i say pre...

Weigh up speakers that were good when new but with unknown usage/wear, no warranty and hard to find replacement drivers VS speakers that are probably worse than the others were new but brand new with warranty. The choice is yours... Are the craigslist pair nearby for audition? Check out the RP6s at ...

Electric Mastering (www.electricmastering.com) and Streaky Mastering (www.streakymastering.co.uk) might be within budget and do good work - tell them Al from Tape Op sent you!

Issue 21 will be in Vol III which is in the works! I think PDFs are a possibility in the future but that's not necessarily the 'official' word. I dont think we'd scan the pages though, not that the logistics particularly matter, but FYI we make the mag on computers and send PDFs to the printer so so...

What I've done in the past is to record several takes (if you can't get any friends involved you can do them solo) Now chop them up into four bar sections and stack the sections on top of each other - now repeat those stacks throughout the song as a four bar loop. I really wouldn't bother with shift...

Anyone know when this is going to be available in the UK? Alternatively, are there any online shops stocking it? If you don't already have a copy, or for anyone else in fact, the book is available now to PRE-ORDER and they'll be going out mid-October. All pre-orders will come with the exclusive CD ...

the power supplies are very easy to make. I use a 500 series rack, so when i am testing power i threw together a simple one on perfboard. It took 30 minutes to make and would work great for your application. I can send you the schematic if you would like. It uses the 7818(pos +18 reg) 7918(-18) and...

Check out the Tape Op INDEX topic -

#51 Jan/Feb 2006

It's also reprinted in UK/EU #60 alongside the Bob power article which is a great read too.

As Farview said, if you've got really bad tom tracks that you're struggling to work with - using samples is not as heinous a crime as some people would have you think! I've just been mixing a some tracks the past few days that I recorded - the band were happy with the sounds when we were recording b...

I don't think anything is scheduled but I'm sure with our collective enthusiasm for doing the article it will happen as and when Madlib agrees to an interview.

From Toerag Studios? His interview is in the Tape Op Book Vol II and I -think- we're talking about revisiting him because he's done a lot of great records since that interview.

Larry, I was talking about doing this in Montauk! Given that I live in a different country maybe it's not a good idea for me to call dibs anyway. Although if Chorga1 passes it's all mine! Stuff I'd like to ask: Recording setup for tracks like 'Great Day' off Madvillainy and the Yesterday's New Quint...

I'm just reviewing one for the mag, it will be in the next issue with any luck. I only got it on Thursday but initial thoughts are as a mic pre it's pretty solid, I did a vocal session yesterday with UK girl group Sugababes using a U87 and a distressor and it's not very colourful (in a good way.) I was going to ask which issue that was in, but then I went over to the index topic and searched for "David Torn" - lo and behold #49 Sept/Oct 2005.

Just a reminder of what a useful feature that is!
