Epiphone Dot / 335 - replacement POT's
I picked up an Epiphone Dot this weekend as part of a trade, and have been thoroughly impressed with this guitar! The only disappointment is the bridge tone pot is obviously a crappy replacement (noisy) and doesn't quite fit the Gibson speed knobs on it. I'm looking to replace all four of the pots w...

I don't have any experience with the OZ, but I personally own the SM Pro HP6E - http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/SM-Pro-Audio-HP6e-Enhanced-6-Ch-Headphone-Amp?sku=620992&src=3WFRWXX&ZYXSEM=0&CAWELAID=440692288 It's really a solid deal, and has up to 5 separate mixes. Haven't had any issu...

While I am thoroughly impressed with Michael Joly's work, I am hesitant to go with MC-012's. Mainly because the cheapest price I've found for a pair is over $450, plus shipping... locally they've run in the $500+ category on Craigslist. **Just realized that the mod is for MXL's and not the Oktava's....

Stereo Pair of SDC's - Finger vs MC930 vs C42 vs CEMC6
I have a bit of a dilemma, which I realize has been discussed previously - I need to pick up a pair of small diaphragms. Like many out there, my budget is rather limited. I thoroughly enjoyed the SDC shoot-out article which was in TapeOp a few issues back. This section was especially helpful: http:/...

I don't think you will be disappointed with the 1272, especially for that price. However, I would just be a bit leary about trusting for "true" stereo results. Otherwise, a great preamp and a great value. As for the Mouse - definitely try it before you buy it! And as Joel H is always raving, use it ...

In response to your original question on the API 2500 - I don't personally have any experience, nor do I know many people who do. However, TW Walsh (of The Soft Drugs & formerly Pedro the Lion ) uses a 2500 extensively. I've had him master a few projects I've recorded and really trust his judgment o...

There's been some outstanding response, but just thought I'd throw in my two cents - I think we probably have similar thoughts on gear-buying, and likely musical taste from the sounds of your gear. I own an older BLUE Mouse and am thoroughly impressed! However I have a few friends who are staff engi...

Re: What are some of the most "poorly engineered"
[/quote] For instance, I enjoy MGMTs Oracular Spectacular in a musical sense, but it seems to cause me so much hearing fatigue that after a few songs I have to switch over to something else. It's so overly compressed, the lyrics are garbled, and the saturation/distortion just seems to be the worst k...

I realize this response isn't exactly humorous, but I serve as the faculty adviser for the Audio Club at a small college in Seattle. We're in the process of soliciting funds for our own gear so we don't have to borrow any. If we could wrangle up some stuff ahead of time it would greatly help our cau...
