recording bass
my band is recording in a few days at our practice space. It's a small room but it sounds huge due to the high ceiling. We're recording everything seperate and the only thing we're a little worried about is bass. We're going to experiment and press buttons until it sounds good but maybe some of you ...

Re: good converters in ADATs?
Yea my friend has that setup at his studio. They make bridges so that you can use the converters from old adats. They sound really good.

Re: Samson C02
I also have a pair of Co1's. I like them a lot. They are noisy but that doesn't bother me too much. I like them for drum overheads and on acoustic guitars, and low-key singing.

Re: Technical Information on old Albums
Also on one of Paul's last records it explains how each song was tracked. Not so much mics and gear but that almost every song was tracked to 2 inch and dumped to Logic. I know there's a funny band from Chicago called the Fucking Champs that has really detailed explanation on gear used, etc.

Re: I'm sure this has been asked before, but best studio foo
Well for funniest studio footage: Silverchair has a documentary on the making of their last album. I saw it in a used bin for $1.99 so I had to see it. It's ridiculous. They "demo" the album in a studio that I could only dream of recording in. Then they spend like 8 years and 8 million dollars recor...

Re: mics used on The Clash s/t and early Minor Threat record
i know that whenever I've ever seen footage of the clash recording their first record it appears that they're doing it live. You can't see much of the mics but it seems like Joe is singing into one of those skinny Johnny Rotten pencil Mics. Could just be a 57 but I think I recall seing old electrovo...

order of things thread....
what are some right ways to connect and shut "stuff" on and off. This could range from Studio, PA, guitar rig, etc. Lately I've been thinking alot about these kinds of things. I know there are certain ways that can prolong gear lifespan. For example: When I turn on my amp (tube) I leave it on standb...

Rap
That guy on the board that just mixed Ludacris got me to thinking about rap. There's an Eminem song in which he actually makes reference to 2 inch, as in 2 inch tape. I'm sure he was just being clever (and that the song was done on pro-tools) but I was trying to figure out when rap (mostly mainstrea...

PA advice
My band has been struggling for a year now with practice limitaions. We're moving into our own room in a week though so for the first time we'll be able to have a permanent setup. The quality of our PA has suffered due to the fact that we've never had the opportunity to adjust it to sound good becau...

I heard the whole new album. It's pretty good. Sounds like they went back to that awesome studio again. It's a lot more melodic.

Mixing from pro-tools to 1/2 inch
My band is in the process of recording a record ourselves. When we're done we're considering taking it somewhere else to mix and then hopefully mixing it down to 1/2inch. As I research different studios to go to what should I make sure they have gearwise in order to do that the right way. I'm assumi...
