Need Help Troubleshooting Solid State Bass Amp
I inherited a broken Ampeg SVT 400T bass amp. It's one of the transistor models from the late 80s. The preamp section works ok and signal passes fine through the direct outs. The problem is there's a 10A fast-acting fuse in the power section that keeps blowing. I removed all 12 of the power transist...

Re: Can you make instrument cables out of xlr lines
In other words: will having an unconnected wire in the cable effect its functionality as an unbalanced cable? No. One thing you can do if you're worried about it, is use both wires twisted together for the conductor. Try it and see! Just be really careful both wires are cut really clode to the same...

This is a related question: Would a passive transformer-based DI work in reverse as a reamp box? I always assumed it would (seems like it should) but I've never actually tried it. A DI xformer converts a really high Z load into a pretty low mic-level load, whereas a reamp starts with a line load an...

A reamp box will take a line level signal and convert impedence to more closely resemble what's coming from a guitar (and sometimes will have the ability to attenuate the signal). Impedence conversion is something a transformer is naturally suited for, hence the name! Another thing transformers are ...

Re: Electric Guitar Neck Shaving
I've got a new Fender Jazzmaster and I'm having some trouble with consistent tuning throughout the neck. Once the instrument is in perfect tune...I hold chords and the notes aren't completely in tune with other. I can even hear significant change in pitch by holding fretted strings and pushing down...

Re: ADC Patchbays
My friend who I haven't seen in a year just came over to my new house last night and GAVE ME two ADC patchbays. One is 24 channel and 1/4" and the other is 48 channel bamtam. Both are ADC brand, both are wired to another plate that I am assuming goes at the back of a broadcast rack. The story regar...

Every time i tried spot micing cymbals it sounds weird to me - too present and artificial. But, I think if I were in a situation where having more ride definition was important, and I decided to go the close-mic route, I'd try and take advantage of the sensitivity and fast response typical of SDC mi...

timbale sticks are about 1/2 the width of 7A's. 7A's are not an oddly small size drum stick at all. Yeah, and it was a gradual switch down on my part. I think if i were playing anything bigger than a 13/16/22 kit, a 7A would be undersized, but with a good snap I can get a good tone, and like I said...

this is a little tangental, but any chance the drummer could switch to lighter sticks? I gradually went down from 2B>5B>5A and finally a 7A and it's very rare that I break cymbals or pit heads anymore. I was also able to get a better tone with thinner cymbals and heads, and still play with a lot of ...

do you really feel as though you wll be saving a ton of money. I just got into building pedals recently and decided to build a clone of the original MXR Dist. the kit was around $80.00 and i'm pretty sure you can buy the pedal new for about $100.00, the savings are cool but the headaches and stress...
