Most gear that is DC supplied does not, in fact, care whether it is polarity correct. Some things are very important to get polarity correct like refrigerators. Occasionally, the improper polarity on a metal appliance will cause the casing to become electrified. And some light fixtures will become ...

LowG, Your room is only about 1100 cubic feet in volume and it will require LOTS of trapping. You need to try to get the RT-60 to 0.17 Seconds average. - This is for optimum mixing results and usability. The dimensions also do not support good modal distribution and unless your walls are single laye...

Brilliant. That's good to know. - You CAN'T tell everything from a photo. ;) It is just my 'usual' caution that I give when someone is building a desk. OP, in my honest opinion, the Sterling and Argosy style desks CAN be a bit TOO large and have TOO much surface area that you might not need. If you ...

Yours, Nick. Very nice job, though. I would recommend setting the speakers either BACK on stands or as far forward as possible. If you were to lay a mirror on the desk or on the console, would you be able to see the speakers? If so, you should move them so that the desk does not cause you any proble...

Your desks are very nice and functional, however they probably will give you hell acoustically. You should get the speakers OFF the desk and on stands behind the desk. The reason that major console manufacturers desks are sloped and Sterling & Argosy make desks the way they do is to manage reflectio...

Kevin,

Its all to do with density. 3/4" MDF would probably get you the 'max'.

Gobos with a heavy plywood or mdf core will attenuate the lower frequencies more than ones without. Depends on the Schroeder frequency of the room in which they are used... AT Schroeder freq, LF waves will flank around the gobos, but up to that point they will help to give you some isolation. I thin...

Ok. I get that. I should have stated that differently. You can get keeper takes ANYWHERE if you are GOOD and really know what you are doing. But the average person wanting to build a home studio and build a 'booth' for vocals has the wrong Idea. If you NEED a booth.. you need a booth. But MOST small...

Heavy is good. You don't need GG.

MAM construction.. massive outer shell, air space, massive inner shell. Done. No worries.

Check local prices for the materials; Heavy/cheap = gooooood!
light/expensive = baaaad.

simple stuff really. :D

Lost, Well, not in my book. Sorry. You can't get keeper takes in a room of less than 1500 cubic feet and 6x8x8 would only get you 384. Not near enough to get the resonances low enough to filter out.. even with treatment. Not recommended. We would always put the singer in a booth when tracking the wh...

Kevin, Sounds like a great place. Amp Isolation: Ideally requires an isolation room or booth. Gobos will help a little, but not for a loud guitar where low frequency guitar notes get into the drums. Depends on your situation, micing techniques, and budget. Vocals: I recommend complete gobo with a wi...

He has his own insurance and equipment.. that's a good start. Unless the block and foundation is crumbling, it can be fixed. I don't really have enough information to comment intelligently. ;) Do some research and check with your local codes officer. They will tell you straight what is required (and...
