Mineral wool has a r value very similar to fiberglass....

Closed cell foam has other benefits than just thermal. It forms a perfect vapor barrier so no drafts or leaks, and is excellent at keeping the summer humidity outside as well. Good stuff!

You'll be happy you did this!

I've been amazed at how well the foam insulation does in hot humid weather, keeping the humidity under control. Money well spent!

Yes. It's a good way to go. Esp if the control room is already well treated.
Not a night and day difference...but a very comfortable shift.

Those sony mtx boxes were awesome! The 8 track is a great deck, super stable transport, cool punch functions and solid sound.

The plan for your floor is definitely looking in the right direction. Normally, you could decouple the ceiling below....but in a remodel that might not be an option. If the lower floor ceiling can't be decoupled with rc or clips. You may want another layer of material on the floor. In addition to he...

I'm with you on the thermal flight feathers! Spray foam is VERY impressive thermally. Not just temp wise...but humidity as well. I've got an addition I'm finishing now that's been foamed. It's amazingly efficient! And super cost effective in the long run. Both on energy use and comfort. It does crea...

Glass block is ok....it doesn't have any astounding sound isolation properties. I'd suggest installing an inner and an outer double hung or slider window assembly. I've used these to great effect. You can open both windows for fresh air....you can see out and a pair of decent to high quality multipl...

In short I'd say no. You are in an isolated space etc. If you had a limitless budget and were building from scratch it might be wise to float the slab Is that slab connected to any other structure you want to isolate sonically? Concrete can and will transmit physical vibrations (tapping noises etc)....

In theory, yes you want to decouple your internal wall and ceiling planes from your structure. I don't know anything about genie clips in particular....they do look very similar to other clips. And I'm sure they will perform as such. Personally, I do not recommend clips for most projects for 3 reaso...

The space looks like it could be fun! In an attic situation like yours I'd recommend as much insulation as humanly possible for thermal reasons up there. Your machines and you will be so much happier cool than hot and humid. Mineral wool isn't any better at thermal or sound transmission in side a wa...

Roxul board insulation.... Are these foam based board insulation? I love styrofoam board insulation for thermal/vapor insulation.....but they don't have any positive effect on sound. They are fairly transparent to sound. Some of the spry foams are ok for sound.....not great, but ok. Mostly because t...

Prodex looks interesting for building solutions in heavy humidity locations. I don't think It's going to deliver in the acoustic transmission area like fiberglass. Acoustic claims are many time very misleading, or at least difficult to interpret. For example, is prodex claiming their product will ad...

Cinder block walls are decent for the outer shell... Their min weakness is physical transmission (tapping etc). Those sounds go right through concrete. The barn door: I'd recommend going with standard wood construction. 2x6 is standard for exterior walls and will accommodate more insulation which wi...
