Yeah, so I'm mostly talking about what to do when absolute lyric clarity is the priority, and not so much about whether or not the concept is valid. Try short delays (<50 ms). Maybe with a high pass. Livens things up and helps pull your ear to the vocal, as long as you don't make the delay too loud.

I have to disagree with Professor's philosophy somewhat. Ultimately the listener is going to walk away humming the MELODY, and I'd be willing to bet that they are going to sing along with lyrics that aren't exactly correct. If they even sing the lyrics at all. I think of all the great songs that I l...

No worries Marc, I'll get by. On the plus side I'll have a lot more free time to check out your new (ish) studio.

worky in NYC - sad times

Hey there everyone, I'm the latest casualty of the doomed economy. I used to be the chief engineer at Blue Man Group's production studio in the Lower East Side, but now that is going to be a part time gig so I'll be back into the freelance market. What are you crazy kids doing to drum up some work? ...

Hey all, I know I'm not all that active around here but I'd like to come out and meet some people. My band could play also if it's that type of situation.

Blue Man Group needs an intern

Hi all, my name is Matt and I'm the head engineer at Blue Man Group's production studio in the Lower East Side. We'll be starting a search for a new intern in about a week, so I figured I'd get you all in on the action. I'm available to answer any questions you might have, but please submit all resu...

Hey Marc, this is Matt from Blue Man. Cool stuff, I like the groove on Amazing. The synths sound really good too. Do you guys play much? I'll have to come check it out. I started a thread with some rough stuff from my band over here, check it out if you get a chance: http://messageboard.tapeop.com/v...

I haven't heard the curve bender, but I think the tone controls are great EQs. You also get the added benefit of the gain/feedback circuit which is just as useful as a nice EQ in my opinion. Sometimes I'll run room mics through just to hugify them on the way in.

NYC ACCOUNTANT

I'm an engineer/musician in NYC and I was hoping someone could recommend me an accountant. I'm the staff engineer at a production studio and while I don't make money from music right now, it's definitely (re: hopefully) a possibility in the future. Just looking for some names.

Thanks.

Does anyone have advice for controlling the attack of the kick drum? It seems like most new stuff has the kick sitting higher in the mix (around 2.5k or higher) but I love it when it sits a little lower frequency-wise (around 1k a la Back in Black). Nice and punchy. Anyway, anyone can turn up the EQ...
