Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
Just heard about these, and had to try them... arrived today. Magma Transpositor strings. They're for nylon string guitar, and they're tuned an octave down from normal, but with normal tension. Just like normal nylon strings, they take a while to settle into tune. Did a quick little demo: http://www...

Re: ring modulator effect on my ears... WHAT??
Seems to be ok today... rested my ears for the most part today, not playing music (much). Played guitar a bit, to test, and did not hear the ring mod effect. If it comes back, I'll make an appointment with the doc. I should do it anyway... but was just there, for a scary mole... the dermatologist I ...

ring modulator effect on my ears... WHAT??
Has anyone else experienced this? This is bizarre and kind of distressing. I was playing electric guitar, unamplified, and noticed that when playing on the A and B strings, there was an added note, like a ring modulator effect. It was only on those strings. I looked for some physical cause on the gu...

Re: Vintage EV V2 ribbon microphone questions
Try doing the same thing but running it into a guitar amp, and speak into the mic. How does that sound? I think Dave MK is probably right. I wouldn't just jump to the conclusion that there's a problem with the ribbon or motor. On mine I can see through the grille to the ribbon and see it easily, I'm...

Re: Vintage EV V2 ribbon microphone questions
I just took a look at my V2 to see what the connector is, but apparently before I bought it someone had rewired it to a cable with an XLR at the end. Which is something you should consider doing. If you know how to solder, this isn't brain surgery. If you don't, learn... it's a useful skill anyone u...

Re: vinyl collecting ( and surrounding planetary atmosphere )
Just had the most incredible record score... was tipped off that the library at the college where I'm studying gamelan is giving away a big chunk of their record archive. I missed the first session, and most of the jazz was apparently picked clean, unfortunately, but I still managed to snag a near m...

Re: Device that elevates one microphone to speaker level
I have an old Amplivox lectern amp that does this... it's like a mini PA. I'm sure there must be modern versions. Any kind of small, portable PA should do what you want: https://musiccritic.com/equipment/speak ... pa-system/

Re: the return of the ubertar ribbon mic
Hey... just want to let people know these are still coming. When I started on them, my pickup business was in a lull, so I had time to work on them, but since then, business has, well, "picked up", if you'll pardon the pun. I stained the wooden coffins yesterday and I've made a bunch of the motors b...

yard sale score today... Funkadelic, Parliament, Bootsy, Rick James, Stevie Wonder, Prince, Michael Jackson, and a sharp left turn... Kraftwerk. 14 records in all, not counting the double albums. Some of the covers are a little water damaged and musty, but the records are in fine shape... I haven't ...

Re: the return of the ubertar ribbon mic
Yeah, it's not too late. I'm making around 10 now; I've got enough parts to make 20. There are a few people from off of TOMB who want some. I can get some more parts if need be. The only thing I'd need to get more of are the threaded nuts to hold the mics to the mic stands. I'm not sure how many of ...
