I was just thinking about a similar situation because I was curious as to how those large jazz ensembles managed to record all in the same room and yet keep the drums under control? Even the small groups, think Coltrane quartet, how did VanGelder keep Elvin's drums from not bleeding into everything ...

Well, that's a whole other issue because the last "producer" she worked with had them track to a click then go back and overdub everything else separately. I'm pretty sure he is one of the oracles that is giving her advice. During our first conversation she mentioned how she didn't like working tha...

Hi, I think you should have her in the studio for a rehearsal time, say 15-30 minutes with whomever is going to record on her record, and then decide what format will be best. You never know until you know... Also, completely ignore whatever her "friends" say. Remember, most of the time, it people ...

Tape= Sloppy?
I have a new client coming in soon and she's been debating on either recording to tape or DAW. I spoke to her this week and she said that she's gotten some interesting opinions but a few people have expressed that her recording will sound "sloppy" if she does it to tape. We talked for a while and I ...

Loose valley people modules
I just got my VP rack power supply rebuilt and can finally start using my modules. The two gain brains IIs I have don't sit well and aren't making contact to the clot connectors in the back very well. I have to push the modules in and hold them for them to work. They don't have the screws to hold th...

What is this a symptom of? Cranking trim
On a few channels on my board I have to crank the trim from the tape/daw to get a signal.Prior to this there is no signal or it's intermittent. I turn the pot all the way up and then I can use that channel.
Is it the pots? Caps?
Thanks,
Eddie

I'm dealing with somewhat of a similar situation. This is the 2nd time I've worked with the band. The last time was a year and a half ago and I recorded a 5 song ep for basically a favor (they found a bass player for my band when ours quit and it really helped us out) and a $100. Initially it was go...

I just did a similar thing with a band called the Blasting Co. We used a Royer SF24 stereo ribbon as the main room mic (I know it's $$$$ but I don't own it, wish I did) and then spot mics. I used a few hyper cardioid mics to try and control the bleed. There were vocals involved as well so we wanted ...
