I checked out a Parasound today. Looks pretty good and the price is right. I noticed Bryston makes a nice looking hi-fi preamp, too, but it's outside my price range.

Definitely under a grand. I'd also consider getting a separate phono pre and having the "preamp" be pretty much just a source selector and attenuator.

Hi Fi People: Preamp

My old HK receiver needs to be replaced (it never was that great to begin with) and I'm going to go with separates. I need to get a preamp with a couple/three line level inputs and a MM phono pre. Simple is good, and I'd prefer to do EQ in a separate box, if at all. A remote control for volume would...

you can cut down cymbals that have edge cracks no problem. I've been playing a ride for years that I had to cut down by about an inch. works great. Trick is to get it early.

Make sure you don't use an exact 10" replacement for the 8x10, as those are 32ohm.

Specifically, it's a Wurlitzer 200. This instrument, if you didn't know, has a reed and tine mechanism for generating sound. the reed part is a metal plate with a 140-170v fixed DC charge applied to it. So it kind of works like a condensor mic. (You probably knew all this stuff.) Anyway, there's a 1...

Measuring Voltage on a high impedance load

Hello,

I'm trying to measure a DC voltage at a very high load (somewhere around 15Meg). At this level, do I need to be cautious about my DMM's impedance, lest the reading become inaccurate?

Thanks

generally, the lifecycle of a head is either: 1. It progressively stretches out til further tightening can;'t get it in tune or resonating correctly 2. It gets dented up to the point where it can't be tuned I guess in terms of etiquette, I'd mainly worry about the heads. If you have a agreement to u...

Is it possible the guitarist is fighting the drummer, particularly in regard to cutting through over the sound of cymbals?

Saw that on Boston CL as well. I don't think the guy is going to get the 5k he's asking.
Comes with custom desk though!

This got covered a month or 2 back in the DIY forum. The upshot is that a DI will impedence match hi-z instrument to mic-level, but a dedicated reamp will do line to hi-z. Close, but not quite the same, and also some reamp designs have an attenuator built in.
