Re: A Manifesto About the Talentless Talent
I see talentless talent as putty and I can mold them into rock stars. This is another one of the irreconcilable arguments: the "producer vs. engineer and where the line is drawn" debate. Seems to me the most important thing here is clear discussion between the band and the recordist to set realisti...

Re: A Manifesto About the Talentless Talent
Joel, I totally disagree. I'm also aware that my disagreement doesn't make much difference: this is one of those totally irreconcilable arguments. It's one facet of the "pro vs. amateur" argument that pops up, in various guises, all the time. There's no accounting for taste. I will give you that if ...

That's funny - I wondered the same thing, only the other way 'round:aurelialuz wrote:does the smashup have the same latency problem that the bitrman has?
So, yeah, sounds like they've both got the latency problem.

Re: Gonna be visiting San Francisco soon
Hey Rick Hunter, I was down in your neck o' the woods this weekend. The state beach at Half Moon Bay is gorgeous - much nicer than Ocean Beach in SF - and a pretty quick drive.

Re: Gonna be visiting San Francisco soon
I'm always up for a freee drink! PM me and I'll give you my contact info. I really don't expect anything out of SF but better pot, better weather, more micro brews at bars and more green space. Then you certainly won't be disappointed - all those things are easy to come by. $700 won't get you a plac...

Re: Gonna be visiting San Francisco soon
I really hope people are more enlightened now, or at least where you are, than when I moved from NM 10 years ago. Every third person seemed to say, "San Francisco, huh? Watch yer back! Don't bend over! Heh heh..." until I wanted to forcibly sodomize the next joker, just out of spite... Huh, anyway.....

Re: "Best Of" the TapeOp Message Board (FAQ)
Hey Evan, Great job on the "best of Tape-Op" sticky. I've been reconsidering my setup, trying to get better sounds than the "plug it in and hit record approach" I've been using. So I've been kind of going back to basics, realizing I didn't have a good understanding of some fundamental concepts. I sp...

Re: The music kids listen to these days.
That's hilarious. Don't show her a picture of Lemmy, tho, don't want to frighten the kid... So far my daughter (almost 2) only knows the basics: Beatles, Johnny Cash, and Elvis. I put on "A Hard Days Night," and she insisted that I start it over a couple of times. I think she just wanted to hear tha...

Bastard Sound.
That's the name I gave to my bedroom recording thing years ago. I've since learned that the band 'man is the bastard' have an offshoot band call 'bastard noise.' So, um, I challenge those guys to a fist fight.

Re: Is it just me or is this a little weird?
Yeah, that is a little weird. Having said that, I've had conversations (both that I have initiated, and other way 'round) online with people I haven't seen or heard from in years. It's pretty painless, certainly easier than meeting in person, because you can do it at your own pace, and it's pretty e...

Re: The one bad thing about the SMASHUP
ummm...what's a smashup? UTFS...aww, just kidding... The Smashup is part of the Alesis ModFX line of digital effects boxes, the most talked-about of which is the BitRMan. There have been several threads about them recently, partly because they were really cheap at Musician's Friend recently. Rodgre...

Re: What Did You Work On Today? 7-05-04
Recorded scratch vocals and guitar for a new song. This was the first thing I've recorded in quite a while. Over the last few weekends I've replaced my monitors and rewired a bunch of stuff, so that everything in my spare-bedroom setup can be ready to go really quickly. It paid off; my bandmate and ...
