I have demagnetized the heads. This did not amend the problem. After demagnetizing, I applied a test tone to channels 3 and 4 and recorded. Monitoring of the record head the VU meter started at 0 and when the counter on the tape deck reached 30 the signal strength began to gradually decline until it...

Teac 3340 + Signal Strength / Buildup

Hi all. I have question about my Teach 3340. I'm recording with Ampex 456. The type with the backcoating on the non record side. The problem i'm having is that after a few passes through the tape heads I seem to lose all signal strength to channels 3 and 4. There doesn't appear to be any shedding go...

Frequency Range Question: Low, Low Mid, High Mid, High

Hi all. I'm wondering (and searching the net didn't help too much) if there are agreed upon ranges represented by Low, Low Mid, High Mid & High? I seem to remember being tested on this in school but I really cant remember at this point. If I was guessing I'd say 20 - 250, 250 - 1K, 1k - 5k, 5k-20k o...

+infinity on the ampeg v2 or v4. but early 70s without the distortion circuitry.
both are monster tone machines and take pedal extremely well. i would say they rival a fender twin reverb as far as clean headroom goes. and in tone as well, but a different kind of clean. no "chime" but lots of body.

Thanks for all the help everyone.
I picked up a SP-505 off of the bay. It seems a lot less intimidating than any of the electribe units and a lot less of an investment than an mpc.

Sampler / drum machine recommendations?

Hello. I'm looking to purchase a drum machine / sampler. I'd like something that isn't going to be a daunting task to learn to use, that can create loops and then tie them together and that sends midi so i can sync my synthesizer to it. Oh, and of course, not break the bank too badly as i'm only a n...

Tube question

I was just wondering. Is there any harm or danger to a 6L6 if you power only the filament?

Thanks

Good Connector for Instrument Cables

I'm going to be making some instrument cables and am looking for input on a good quality connector that wont break the bank. I was leaning toward using something from neutrik but even making that decision leaves a bevy of different choices within their catalog. Any advice on P/N's would be appreciat...

Meter Calibration - Test Tone

I'm trying to calibrate the meters on a biamp 1642 console. The documentation instructs the use of a -20db 1khz tone. The only test tone i have on hand is that put out by my ebtech cable tester: -10dbv, +4dbu, and "mic level". Is there a way to utilize this device? Is there a simple way to generate ...

WTB: Roland JP8000

Hi.
Does anyone have a Roland JP8000 they'd like to sell at a reasonable price?
Preferably in the NY/NJ area, but i'm willing to pay for reasonable shipping.

Thanks

Shunting LED

Hi all. I have multiple small circuits running off of the same 9V supply. One of which is an LED. Due to the wiring and limitations of the switching arrangement i'm not able to turn the led on/off by engaging/disengaging ground to its cathode. But what i could do is wire the anode to the switch and ...
