Re: Tascam 388 Muddy Recording
you need to use 90+ percent isopropyl alcohol. rubbing alcohol is too weak i believe. Definitely true about the alcohol strength. Use the highest you can find, like for wound cleaning (90+ percent or better). My understanding is that you should clean the tape path and all heads at the end of a sess...

Re: Garageband 10.3.2 Latency w/ M-Track 2x2
I use PC's, don't use Macs, don't use Garage Band. As Nick stated, if you are having latency issues, perhaps it is time to start using Logic Pro. For latency issues, this video may be of help: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=FLNdGMyFJM6MWO1NDXrCfoTw He's using an iPad but I would think that th...

Re: tracking headphones 2019 (for the performers)
I bought some inexpensive Monoprice headphones for tracking that sound pretty good, are quite inexpensive, hold tight, and have removable cables. https://www.monoprice.com/product?c_id=120&cp_id=12001&cs_id=1082302&p_id=8323&seq=1&format=2 I have a few pairs of the ones that Tony uses. I like these...

Re: 388 Dumping to Digital? What do I need?
Questions: 1. What computer do you have? Specs please. 2. What operating system is it? 3. Afterwards, are you planning on using this interface a lot of the time? Or just to transfer recordings once they are done on your 388? 4. What is your monitoring setup like? Some interfaces provide software mo...

Re: Pre-Amps Rec's for Instruments and Mics?
Hard to know what you consider "reasonably priced" but for warm I love the UA solo 610 - a GREAT DI for bass, guitars, keys and a very rich and velvety pre for mics. I use this a lot on vocals too. Can be found used for $500 - $600 used. BTW power supply for Golden Age is cheap: https://www.bhphoto...

Re: Rugs: 1 big one VS. a few smaller ones
Maybe you should have a few instead of one big one: one for the mix area, one dedicated to drums, a couple of smaller ones for amps/keyboards/whatever. This allows you to affect the acoustics of the tracking area better; less rugs=more reflection; more rugs=more damping.

Re: Compact recording/preamp interface that doesn't require a computer hooked up to run?
OP wants something cheap headphone out with volume control easily accessible to purchase maybe 48v power (if the mics they want to use require it) and then the mysterious part "not admittedly for recording" what exactly do you need to do ? My understanding is that the thread starter wants a small m...

Re: Show Us Your Junk - cool gear porn YouTube Channel
Wow. I appreciate the responses to my post. I have seen a few of the videos and I agree that they are interesting and informative, and the focus in the videos are not completely on Earthquaker products, which have a good reputation. I do know of one engineer/producer in my area who received a few Ea...

Re: Reusing Tape
Unless you are dead set on mixing direct from the R8, if your audio interface can record 8 ins or more, then consider tracking to the R8 then transfer the tracks all at once to the computer to mix. You can then reuse your tape for another project. You should be able to reuse the analog tape many tim...

Re: Compact recording/preamp interface that doesn't require a computer hooked up to run?
Couldn’t you just use a little mixer like a Behringer XENYX 1002? I would think the Behringer XENYX 802 mixer would be even smaller, less expensive & work well, although not sure if it supplies a real +48v phantom power. BTW. this thread starter posted the same question on Gearslutz, he/she should ...

Don't get too into those vids. They're just Earthquaker promo commercials. The participants probably had some incentives to do them.
