Re: Any reggae heads?
for great dub reggae, try any Black Uhuru album with the word "dub" in its title (they often release two versions of their albums). fantastic stuff! also Linton Kwesi Johnson, Lee "Scratch" Perry, and the Mad Professor. all total classics.

Re: Guitar Cable Length...
the shorter, the better, although you can always get a line buffer if you need to. i generally go with 6' cords for recording, although signal degradation's not real noticeable until you start getting over 20'.

Re: To all the web page designers...
i should add that if you absolutely MUST use fixed widths, then go for the smaller of the two most prevalent resolutions (800*600, rather than 1024*768), because it's less annoying to have a small content area than it is to have a horizontal scrollbar! i believe - and i could be vastly mistaken, sin...

Re: To all the web page designers...
ALWAYS use percentage widths instead of fixed values. that way, it will stretch or shrink according to the user's screen/browser size. and use the validator at www.w3.org - it'll save you a lot of trouble as well. example: <table width="100%"> <tr> <td width="50%"></td> <td width="25%"></td> <td wid...

Re: Washburn D10 acoustic?
be my guinea pig and buy a Michael Kelly ... they're beautiful as all hell and he regularly auctions them on eBay for next to nothing. i read one or two glowing reviews about them, too. for my money, nothing can beat a Washburn. most underrated acoustic guitars ever. at least in the "best bang for y...

malt liquor of almost any variety... or (let's say i rob a bank someday) St. Stan's Red Sky Ale, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, any of those wacky Quebecoise beers (La Fin du Monde, Maudite, &c.) by Unibrew, Belgian-style ales (esp. Trappist ales), Anchor Steam, Dragon Stout, etc., etc., etc....

Re: cheap soundproofing? ideas anyone?
deep-shag carpet-walls work wonders... i also like the egg-crate foam stuff for bedding, which is similar enough to the professional kind that costs, what?, $40 a square foot?, only you can get whole rolls of the stuff for cheaper than that at any non-audio store on the planet. sometimes i wonder ho...

Re: Avatar hosting question.
i've always dug the "Advanced 2D and 3D GIF Animator" (or whatever it's called; something like that). it's free and gives you a LOT of stuff to make it easy to do cool-looking 3D animations.

Re: Shure SM57 vs. SM58
personally, i've been using a knock-off of the 58 by some Chinese company called Sky. it's called the SEK-14. i don't know a thing about them, but there's a cat in Miami (i think?) on ebay who's been selling them for like $22! i can't tell the difference, and neither can anyone else i've asked. so n...

hahaha, thanks you guys! funny thing about monitors: i prefer any old speakers/headphones that i'm familiar with. that way i have a better idea what it'll sound like in the end. the flattest things i own are a pair of AKG 44's. and yeah, phpBB IS fast! i use it exclusively (yeah i code, too). Juno =...

hi, i'm new. name's jeremy and i live near Dayton, Ohio. i went to the Recording Workshop back in '91 and never got a studio job since, but did manage to land one gig doing house sound for this great little acoustic joint down in Florida that unfortunately didn't last very long. just getting into di...

Orchards & Vines- psychedelic pop
one of my favorite bands. how come all the really inventive rock and roll comes out of Canada these days? anyway, they're sort of stratospheric psychedelic indie-pop, and they're marvellous. and they have a full-time cellist! Re: Suggestions for Archiving this board...
i would suggest letting it all pile up. archiving will still use the same amount of MySQL space, so searches will still go as fast or as slow as they would archived or unarchived, and searching is the main way to get specific information anyway. you could always hand-prune all the really dumb, corny...
