There are so many modern options for monophonic analogs, it seems silly to buy (ie, pay too much for) vintage analogs and then have to deal with the limitations and maintenance issues thereof. My opinion, of course. The DSI Mopho Keyboard is a killer little yellow bastard. The onboard arpeggiator an...

What OS are you running? Cubase 6 does not support Windows XP officially, although it will run on it. But you have to have SP3 and NetFramework 3.0 or greater for it to run.

Personally, I'd record the band first, make a back-up of the session, and then upgrade.

Cubase 6 is great, btw.

No offense taken. I apologize for presuming your were a troll who just happened upon this place due to some keyword searches. Michigan is indeed hurting; I don't think anyone can argue about that. For the relatively small amount this program costs the state, it seems to have a pretty good return in ...

Speaking of an axe to grind, who joins an audio discussion forum just to comment on a post about Michigan's film tax credit?

and on-topic, a pro-film industry initiative in a place like michigan seems like it was short-sighted from the get-go. how many studios actually began to build? was there really a big response from the industry? Well, good thing you posted a snappy response earlier in the thread, considering you ha...

Even though Windows XP is not officially supported for this upgrade, I'm happy to report that Cubase 6 runs fine under XP! Installed it this week and it already saved me so much time with the new Batch Export feature. That alone is worth the upgrade price to me. The new look is fantastic: Really eas...

A friend and local studio owner has some of those big mic boom stands from that studio and even one of the M49s. Awesome stuff.

Re: Buying a nicer preamp... to run through a Firepod/Firebo

Limited funds and even more limited Real Studio Experience have left me with some empty spaces in my knowledge... The specific application of this is as follows... I've got a bunch of alright-to-decent mics, nothing too amazing but plenty of stuff that I like. Oktava MK 319s and MK-012s, an EV RE20...

From the groupDIY forum post:

"RE20 repair rates generally range from $109-$159 with some exceptions."

I was assuming mine would be about $130 before I found out I won the free refurb! :) Yeah, definitely shoot him an email, he's a nice dude.

RE20 restoration - NICE!

I hope this is the right subforum to post this. I bought a used RE20 off eBay about six years ago in order to use as a saxophone mic on live gigs that were being recorded. The mic sounded good, but would make these weird little clicks randomly. I took it apart and tried to track down the source, but...

Just ordered. I'm going to have to upgrade my computer, which is good because I'm finally hitting the limit of what it can handle (it's 5 years old and when I built it, I purposely stayed about a generation behind the curve at the time). Really looking forward to the editing enhancements. I need to ...

You can use one that is rated for a higher amperage (ie higher than 400ma) but not higher voltage.

Do you have a voltmeter or access to one? It might be wise to test the wall wart with a voltmeter and make sure it's not working before buying another one.
