I wasn't aware that Marik was still doing repairs? I know he is really busy with Samar, which is great to see!
Not sure, I just know he was advertising Beyer service at one point. May depend on his work load.

Samar was the only party doing original piston ribbons.

If they're repairing M160's again, this is news! They were not for the longest time.

Re: I don't need another ribbon...or do I?

As I get more and better ribbons, the lesser/cheaper fall into disuse. Then I realize, when something needs a re-ribbon, if it's a cheap mic it's not worth the investment, get another and that costs something more than a re-ribbon usually, by some amount. Something more expensive, it makes sense to ...

Re: My Massive Preamp Comparison

What a tough thing to try and compare. I took a quick pass. Differences I hear are easily slight level changes for the most part. Will take another pass later. The option of doing this through a splitter so the performance is the same doesn't really work either, as the paralleled inputs all affect e...

Re: Hamptone gain block / mic preamp article

It’s a hi-Z input so a higher ratio transformer gives the lowest noise. Anything 10k or higher worth a try. Tradeoff is higher ratio, higher gain, though the way transformers work a 10K isn’t as much less as a 50k might appear, in the neighborhood of 6dB.

Re: Omnis on toms

gonna get the cymbals anyway......point being they will suck less with omni than an unavoidable cardioid bleed position. If ANYTHING's gonna be unavoidable heavy bleed, chuck the cardioids in the trash and go (real pressure) omni, I always say, and do, and am glad I did. Nothing more unmanageable th...

Re: Omnis on toms

Hell yes to the title. If it works, of course. I consider such when there's no cymbal height and it's a cymbal basher, and a cardioid is essentially ineffective, maybe worse.

Re: Studio websites?

Good questions. My site is still running on the same framework I built in 2003? Funny to look at how many standards have changed since then. Especially, lots of links are no longer a thing. I need to do a total rebuild too. I took my equipment list down as no one seems to care other than other studi...
