I found it online, the place is called 101 Music and there are sister shops, one on Grant and the other on Green. I found a brand new, shrink-wrapped copy of the first Stooges album - on an Elektra cassette!! Around the corner from 101 Music on Grant, the entrance to what they call 101 #2 is marked ...

The Black Market Music on 4th is no more... too bad, they had tons of exactly what you're looking for: EV mics, weird Teac decks, old spring reverbs, etc. If you're actually coming to San Francisco as a tourist, and wanna do tourist things, you might go to Coit Tower - so right at Grant & Green, the...

These guys do a fine job -- just got a 7" back that looks and sounds excellent, and no BS.

Tinnitus is not a disease, it's a symptom of damage... the excessive wax production is a sympton as well. More info: http://www.entnet.org/healthinfo/hearing/tinnitus.cfm I wear plugs now at practice, but not shows... the sound on stage seems to dissipate better, while the practice room is small and...

Ugh, guitar solos. Not a fan of solos - I'm more into the Cropper/Mayfield rhythm/little licks - but a couple that shine for their taste & restraint: Lyndsey Buckingham on that "Thunder always happens when it's... " song - not sure the title. Elvis Costello on "what's so funny 'bout peace, love & un...

Don't know if he's a 'rock star' but Dave Pirner (ex-Soul Asylum, ex-Winona Ryder) had it so bad that he quit for awhile. I'm not surprised to see Bob Mould on that list... seeing Husker Du at the Fillmore was by far the loudest show I've ever seen... louder than Motorhead, even. So I now I have it ...

"Sessions with Sinatra" book
After reading the review in TapeOp, I picked up a copy and I?m just about finished with ?Sessions with Sinatra.? Though I have always liked the Chairman, I didn?t know much about the recordings and this book is fascinating. There?s a fair amount of info on the advent of tape recorders, mic?s, the ch...

Sorry to sound ignorant, but I've always been a little suspicious of vinyl 'pre-mastering'? What exactly does this entail? If the master has been mixed and sequenced properly, does it really need an extra step before being cut? A good vinyl mastering suite will make decisions about eq and compressio...
