Garageband 10.3.2 Latency w/ M-Track 2x2
Hey Folks, I've got a 2018 Macbook Air 1.6ghz processor 16gb RAM. Running Garageband 10.3.2 with an M-Track 2x2 at home and an m-track 8 at my studio. I have logic x pro but I haven't really dove into it yet. I kind of appreciate how simple Garageband is and most of my content comes from an analog 8...

Re: Tips for Dumping 388 > M-Track 8 > Garage Band
"dB or dBFS I dunno" seemed like you didn't understand what was what so lemme know what outputs you're using Tape outs / Aux outs / stereo outs / headphone out ? and what type of tape you're using brand/formulation sounds like the signal coming from the deck is too hot -or- something with the softw...

Re: Tips for Dumping 388 > M-Track 8 > Garage Band
watch the video :hammer: the meters on channels of a DAW are typically in dBFS - 99% of the time - there are plug in virtual analog VU meters out there though I believe you're not wrong in the low levels looking sketchy - I've looked at the documentation for the gear you're connecting studio gear h...

Re: Tips for Dumping 388 > M-Track 8 > Garage Band
Also, I notice when I do a 2-track mix down via audio cable (RCA to 3.5mm headphone cable) I can get SUPER loud levels without any digital clipping. But I guess this is because I'm transferring an analog audio signal and not a digital one, right? You're talking about sending your mix to the mic inp...

Re: Tips for Dumping 388 > M-Track 8 > Garage Band
Thanks for all the tips! I get the idea now. My final question is about garageband. All the volume indicators on the master volume and track volume display "Db" but they don't tell you what kind of decibels, is it analog DB or dbFS? The latest thing I tried was making sure the tracks in garage band ...

Re: Tips for Dumping 388 > M-Track 8 > Garage Band
it's weird to me that all your tracks are peaking at zero on the channels and the master is not over - sounds like something might be limiting the signal at 0dBFS in your computer but like I said I have no idea about garage band and don' know the program material so it's hard to say that might caus...

Re: Tips for Dumping 388 > M-Track 8 > Garage Band
Hey Everyone, I have an update for you on some things I learned. 1. I realized that when transferring from the 388 to garageband via the M-audio M-Track 8, the M-Track 8 channel knobs should be set all the way at zero. All they do seem to do is add extra gain that must be compressed/limited on the c...

Re: Tips for Dumping 388 > M-Track 8 > Garage Band
There's another thing I am just now noticing.... On the initial recording in question I was able to set the master on my garage band at 0db without any clipping. I think I was confused about something. It seems my initial transfer was done "properly." But I'm noticing something new... I have some o...

Re: Tips for Dumping 388 > M-Track 8 > Garage Band
wow, a lot of info here everyone, thanks for the input. It sounds like the basic recommendation is to get a good healthy level on the analog machine, set the m-track 8 to "unity" or perhaps just 12 o'clock on each channel, and don't worry about the channel meters--which don't seem very accurate. The...

Tips for Dumping 388 > M-Track 8 > Garage Band
Hello! I have been recording on a Tascam 388 for a while and I just bought an M-Track 8 to transfer to digital. I'm using garage band. I am very new to digital recording and I'd like some tips on handling the basics of levels. There are three places to set your levels as far as I can tell, the indiv...

Re: 388 Dumping to Digital? What do I need?
24/96 is good for tape capture as it retains a lil more detail 388 tape outs are RCA unbalanced - so you'll want an interface that's compatible - get one that has 8 1/4" unbalanced ins make or purchase an 8 channel RCA to 1/4" snake as short as possible with quality cable n jacks - this will prob m...

Re: 388 Dumping to Digital? What do I need?
Questions: 1. What computer do you have? Specs please. 2. What operating system is it? 3. Afterwards, are you planning on using this interface a lot of the time? Or just to transfer recordings once they are done on your 388? 4. What is your monitoring setup like? Some interfaces provide software mo...

Re: 388 Dumping to Digital? What do I need?
I realize I need 8 simultaneous ins. I’m hoping to spend no more than $500. I’ve been told I can spend as little as $100
