Mr. Brandt, love your webpage (beautiful studio pictures). You have an interesting bio (Jeremy Spencer from Fleetwood Mac is a colorful character).

If I may ask, how did you end up Indonesia and how do you like it there?

Thanks.

I just completed upgrading my DAW. I finally wound up going with an HP Laptop and a new interface. I had to upgrade software too since my old Sonar 2 would not run on Windows 7. I still have my old DAW hooked up to my patch bay which helped a ton while I was transitioning. I'm amazed by how much hor...

Cymbals are loud in relation to the kick and snare.

Are they real drums or is it a softsynth? It doesn't sound like real drums to me.

Thanks. Keep in mind, I'm not talking about trying to make it in a music recording studio. Rather, getting back into tv/film/video post production, which I believe is a more robust industry with more career opportunity. Thanks for the clarification. If you feel like you could land a career in this ...

Your story is fascinating and well told.

My advice, keep the good job that provides a good stable life for you and your family. Keep music as a hobby. Leave the past and what could have been behind you.

Sorry for your loss. My cousin and musical hero died in December, 41 years old. I still have times when it hurts so bad and all I can do is cry, but it does pass, and the loss gets easier. I try to focus on the good times and great memories and the songs we wrote together. I remember how alive I fel...

My guess is that Shure used rivets instead of screws. You can remove them a few different ways; drill them out, cut them out, grind them out with a dremel tool.
I usually opt for the drill approach.

I got the mono CD box set 2 years ago for X-mas. I'd been hearing the hype of how much different and better the mono mixes were for years. Maybe I have tin ears, but the differences are subtle for the most part. Additionally, mono is boring as all hell, separation and clarity aren't as good as the s...

Like Scum said, you're going to need an interface with 8 outputs.

Honestly, I don't think you are going to gain much by doing this. While people around here seem to really love their Tascam 388 recorders, sound-wise they are nothing special. If you want to add hiss noise and mud, go for it.

I made a tape echo out of a cheap Onkyo 3 head cassette deck that I found on Ebay (I'm guessing it was probably an expensive deck back in the 80s). I took it apart, found one of the leads going to the DC motor, snipped it, added a potentiometer, drilled a hole on the front panel under the eject butt...

I like the Steely Dan approach to first take magic, give Denny Dias a stab at the solo, if it's not working, give Steve Khan a shot, if he doesn't nail it Dean Parks is up to bat, followed by Larry Carlton, Lee Ritenour, and Jay Graydon.

Repeat as needed.

I just finished up a plate reverb that I built in the crawlspace. I haven't really put it through its paces yet, but so far I like what I'm hearing. E-money: any chance of pictures? I'd really like to see how you did this (what sort of metal for the plate, etc). I would love to post some pics and M...
