Moving from Roland VS to DAW

This kinda pulls from a variety of the current "soundcard" and "computer building" threads, but since I didn't want to get it buried, here it goes... I'm finally considering setting up a DAW on my current computer...will still use the VS for its portability (i'm a teacher, and an old building after ...

Re: What guitar rocks your recording world?

Hmmm... I'm kinda into my setup right now...G&L Asat classic, demeter tremulator, fulltone fulldrive into one of a few different small amps I like. For late night in the apt. stuff, I use the same set up into a sans amp classic set really clean, no mic emulation, into a joe meek vc6q brit channel, c...

Re: 30-second soundbytes or whole songs?

I'd say go with the MP3s for free demos - wouldn't sell them (or buy them). The snippets always leave me bummed out...especially if I like the music. If you are looking to get exposure outside of your own website, I'd consider other sites to post your music at as well...like IUMA and Garageband.com....

Re: Recording Amp

I have a Trace Elliot Velocette that I'm actually selling - a great amp, but one more amp than I need. It would only tap about 1/2 of your budget price, and is in very good shape (never leaves the house). With a nice pedal like a Fulltone Fulldrive, it makes excellent sounds. Class A, all tube, with...

Re: Fostex 450

Thanks to everyone. I think he'll be glad to hear that it's not too awful, and won't be buying into the Behringer or Mackie camp for even more dough. I have a little soundcraft that I use for routing, and occasionally tracking as I think the pres are pretty ok. I don't (yet) have the needs for a big...

Fostex 450

I have a buddy putting together some gear to record with on a tight budget. He found two mixers - Both Fostex 450s, one an 8 channel, the other a 16 channel. Each is in great shape, and both are under $200. Better choice than...ominous tone...a Mackie or a Behringer? Features that seemed cool were t...
