. So, the loudest parts of a Prokofiev symphony could be far louder than a Lil Wayne record. Kind of cool, right? ....for now. the latest trend in classical recording is putting a BBE sonic maximizer on the mix bus. the dude playing the 4th chair clarient kept feeling like he wasn't getting as much...

personally i wouldn't mind if we went back to late 80s standards, where no one even bothered with a limiter on the master. i really like how unlimited mixes pull you in as a listener, as opposed to pushing everything forward with the limiter. that's pretty unlikely though. anyway, here's a few stup...

Attempting to answer this question properly would take me about 2500 words..... ......So here you go: http://trustmeimascientist.com/2012/04/02/how-to-win-the-loudness-war/ The problem with this, is yes you can turn down the volume, but if the peaks are clipped, you have already ruined the sound. T...

dude. put down the bong. : ) Yep -- It's nothing to worry about. You can't patent a chord progression, a chord, a note, a bassline. You can only copyright songs, unique arrangements performances and recordings. That's it. There's no patenting or trademarking a generic term or word that's already in...

Re: Los Angeles Record Label/Recording Studio Seeks Intern
PLEASE NOTE: This is for an INTERNSHIP and is not a paying job. Sorry to be a stickler, but I think you mean " This internship is not a paying job." A significant portion of internships have always been paid, and an increasing number of what have recently been unpaid internships are again beginning...

I'm gonna have to go for losing sight, easy. I'm already used to seeing things all fuzzy much of the time, and I'm just not that visual of a person. Hearing and sounds and music and words are how I make sense of the world. That would suck to lose. I figure in either case, you just gotta make do. I'd...

I'm enjoying it too. Bowie's voice may not be at it's strongest, but he's using it well anyway, which is always good to hear. Dave over at SonicScoop did an interview with the engineer on that one: http://www.sonicscoop.com/2013/03/11/engineering-david-bowies-the-next-day-inside-the-magic-shop-sessi...

How do you authorize all of your other plugins? Just about everything I own is on iLok these days. The plugins I have are all either quite old, or free. Nothing that needs authorization. There are only a few I use on a regular basis... I'm not a big plugin user. Ah, makes sense then! It's a pretty ...

"it" refers to the iLok itself. You can plug it in to your internet computer to load authorizations from your iLok "account" at iLok.com, and then take the iLok to your studio computer and just plug it in and go. So it's like a flash drive? edit... Ok, I see it that it is... http://ilok.com/ $50 is...

yes well thought argument. Im sure that tape simulator was expensive though right? Maybe i look for a super cheapy and just see if i enjoy the process . . . More expensive than a plugin or a real cheap consumer tape deck, yes. But less expensive than purchase and up-keep costs on one of the nicer p...

I use a Studer a lot, but we've also got an AnaMod ATS-1 Analog Tape Simulator. It a really nice piece of hardware. Sounds great. A lot less maintenance and hassle than an actual tape deck, although perhaps a touch less of the old-timey romance. Personally, I'm more concerned with the sound, so I us...
