For some reason I have accumulated quite a collection of power amps, and all of my smaller ones were free ("that's broken, you can have it," they say....) needing little more than deoxit and some TLC. I wound up with an old BGW (50 wpc I think), a Yamaha "natural sound" series with 60 or so wpc, A p...

Those bigger amps usually have a loud fan in them. that would be one consideration.

I believe United record Pressing will generate these and stuff them in the records for you for an extra fee; probably other record plants do this too.

My band's working on an LP right now and plan to use the bandcamp service. we already have our previous records hosted there, so it's a no brainer.

I'm interested in the IRM unit, was having problems with the email button but sent a PM. hit me back if you get this.

I'm thinking of taking you up, if just for the knobs. they're cool looking!

If you want to take it back to original spec as an intercom, the first thing you need is a schematic. I see an empty tube socket, and it's anyone's guess what goes there...who knows what else has been lost or removed? I was looking at that, and judging from how many wires are going to it, I would s...

there's an easier way to do a cap discharge... you can jumper from pin 7 on the first preamp tube socket (usually closest to the input) to ground. Pin 7 is one of the triode grids. jumpering it to ground will not discharge the PS caps, it would just be like turning the volume knob off. Get a mulitm...

hard to tell from the pics, but it looks like the switch in the center decides whether the speaker makes sound or acts as a microphone. if you got it running you could maybe use it for special effects type vocals. Also looks like you have a transformerless power supply and "death cap" situation. if ...

finally have acquired something worth posting to this monster thread. ...last weekend I scored a 1950s Hammond M3 for $50 off craigslist. everything on it works perfectly. (tonewheel squeaks a tiny bit, oil has been ordered), almost perfect cosmetic condition. I am not a keys player but stoked to le...

I notice you're in Chicago. I don't think people have taken that approach to finding new bands in Chicago for at least fifteen years...every time I'm at a bar -to play a gig or see a band- any given band's friends show up right before they play, and leave right when they're done. That's the way we ...

I usually just inwardly sigh and shake my head at these "how will we keep making money?" threads, but I would like to weigh in on bandcamp. I am in a band that has had a myspace page for several years, and we always saw it as a necesaary evil since, in our scene at least, being on myspace was the on...

I heartily recommend the Voodoo Labs Sparkle Drive. It's like a clean boost blended with a standard OD. It also has a pretty useful tone knob. it's $120ish new IIRC.

one thing that's worked great for me, especially on scratch coats, is to "wet sand" with a big soft sponge. what you do is do your taping and mudding, and then wait for the magic point where the mud is setting but still a little soft (like if you tried to sand it you would just get a smeared mess). ...
