I don't have enough comparative experience with different interfaces as to declare anything "great," but here are my thoughts from when I first purchased an Echo Audiofire 4 back in January of 2009: http://messageboard.tapeop.com/viewtopic.php?t=61586 I still have it, I still use it, and I'm still p...

As a former tour manager for punk and metal bands I have worked for bands that had liability insurance. I would speak to other bands who have played the venue, (if you can), and ask if it was ever checked. Chances are good that it's one of those things that the venue's lawyer saw as very important w...

Trevor,

Thank you again for that original upload. It stays on my desktop and I use it on a fairly regular basis to check drivers, etc. when setting up a PA. Always puts everyone in a good mood, probably because it isn't Steely Dan or hair metal - the two options chosen by 90% of live sound dudes.

Justin, I wasn't posting this as some kind of elitist thing. Nothing could be further from my position. I enjoyed the point that the guy in the video made: We learn that a certain master uses a certain tool, and we equate buying that tool with buying that mastery. I think we've all done it at some t...

See any parallels?

This could have been in Recording Techniques, or Gear Talk, or even in Computer World. But I stuck it here because the discussion is a little more free form around these parts.

3 weeks from now you're going to get that "simple" contract. It will be simple; it will basically say that your beats are Work for Hire. Another possibility: it will offer a very small royalty, and the athlete/artist will explain that the $60k/year + travel + accommodations + buying the mobile rig y...

Respectfully, Tim, I think you're missing the point that concerns some of us. I use Logic and I use Final Cut Pro. I use them both to make money to support my family. What Apple just did with Final Cut Pro X is nothing short of letting me know that at some point in the future I'll have to switch to ...

I get that it's a backyard show, but who lets their dog interfere with a guy trying to play a song? If I was him, Daisy would be a throw rug by now.

(ok, not really.)

You're correct, Carl, I am making assumptions. But the assumptions I'm making are that it's a lot easier to figure out how to customize an existing DAW enough to make you happy than it is to write a whole new program. I could be wrong. I'm also assuming that nobody is going to go through the bother ...

the minute somebody builds it, there will be a message board devoted to it where everybody bitches "why won't it let me edit? why can't I use my VST plugs?" etc... lol!!!!!! +1. I don't do a ton of music recording/editing/mixing for others, but one of my 'rules' is that I don't quantize, beat slice...

Then get a MIDI controller. I have a cheezy little Korg NanoKontrol, and it has transport buttons, 9 rotary controllers, and 9 faders. <$60. If you want to spend more, get a FaderPort, or any of the dozens of others.

Or write a new software. Either one.

I've got a Ramsa DA7, going into a MOTU, into my computer. I like mixing digitally on the DA7. I really wish I'd bought an HDR when I bought that mac, I'd be sitting pretty right now. Does anyone know of a cheap 24 track TDIF to computer interface that gets some good Linux love? Something I could t...

You should just silence the crowd: www.stageit.com Good lord. :( Nay-say all you want, but to me this looks really fucking cool. I could see doing a series on this site from the club where I do sound, or something of that nature. (I've posted on here before about an audio-only site that I worked fo...
