evening levels out on ORGAN bass pedals?
I LOVE BASS PEDALS!! organs rule! (just got a old hammond M2 and the bass pedals are so growly on it). BUT when recording i find that certain notes are really resonant and really stick out - you can see it really obviously on the wav files and i can draw in automation to even it out BUT that is real...

hypercardoid and dynamic mics can be really useful for this too. i did some stuff recently with a 441 on the acoustic - unbelieveably tiny amount of vocal in it. sm7 on voice - again - very little acoustic in it. a LDC seems to pick up EVERYTHING - if you want to use em - don't expect isolation - ju...

lots of things you can try depending on the context/style 1. smaller guitar amps can be wicked for bass and although not a subby and deep they can be much clearer and focussed. my fender blues jr and super reverb work well for this. 2. try a large diaphragm condenser 5 ft back aimed center of cab. 3...

this IS NOT a home recording. i don't know how you could have thought that from these beautiful orchestral recordings. i think it sounds amazing and i WISH i could get sounds like that at home! they have a almost albini like realism and purity to my ears. sounds like tape and vintage tube mics to me...

my vote for PC. quad core with XP. zoom..... i just don't get why macs are so much more expensive. they are not rock solid either - my bro has a new macbook pro - 2 internal HD failures in less than 12 months!! ipods are made to be thrown out and replaced every 2 years. this is not a company i want ...

i think setting a day rate DOESN'T have to mean a open ended length. i charge by the day but when it's at my space it's based on 8 hours. if i am working at a bigger studio then it's usually based on 12 hours. how is that different from hourly you ask? i don't book sessions shorter than a day anymor...

hey guys - thanks again for more good thoughts. that Ahmed Ertegun is fantastic. basically i think i was just at the point of losing objectivity and needed a few days away from it. it probably doesn't suck but i tend to get to a point where everything sounds bad after than many hours in a windowless...

some good thoughts here guys - much appreciated. it's just really hard work . to create a soundscape that you can really enter into and believe. making space. i just spent about 65 hours mixing an album this week and today i think it all sounds about half as good as it should. blech. then i put on "...
