Getreel makes a very valid point. I'm a fan of oxide manipulation(I bought getreel's old MCI, actually) and I live alone, so it's not a problem going all out for me. I guess I'm that guy that made his home a studio- but again, it's where my head is at, so it's not a problem. If you wanted some 'tape...

Man, thanks so much for that, Joel. I was hoping you'd chime in. This is an earlier transformered one with VU's. You really got me curious about this whole discrete mix buss thing. These things run on +/- 36V rails, so they supposidly have insane headroom if well maintained. I may have to get ahold ...

MCI JH-528: Any thoughts?

Well, I've gone off the deep end and am close to pulling the trigger on a late 70's vintage MCI console. It'll be paired with a JH-16 2" machine as well as a newly acquired JH-110A 1/4" machine. Between the 400 and 600 series, this 500 seems most along the lines of what I'm looking for flexibility w...

Speak it, brother. My JH16 24trk gets double duty all the time with this very thing. For some fun, try running the outs of your pre's into the trannys and into PT (or whatever). I just feel better using my tape machine in one form or another too...and it's a great space heater, to boot.

Maybe I shouldn't admit this here, but on my own stuff, I've been guilty more than once of throwing a mic up and just getting levels and not really trying for a better sound than what's there first try. Mainly I'm referring to drums- trying to run back and forth into my control room from the live ro...

Sounds great, Eric. The tones are right on, and it has a nice mellow vibe that draws you into the tune. And I can't help but dig the fact that you recorded this on the Scully...Well done man!

Btw, is that a Fostex Model 80 in the background? My friend has one and that thing is pretty impressive for a 1/4" 8-track.

Too bad you're not closer... I have an o.g. Digimax just sitting here doing nothing. I'd be happy to let you borrow it for the session.

Add me to the 001 roster. Mine's BLA'd with opamp upgrades and from what Matt said- the first BLA clock upgrade they ever did on a 001...kinda neat. It def does sound tons better, and I can transfer from my tape machine and not feel like everything has flattened out. I'll get something newer sometim...
