I'd say Logic has a higher learning curve than most other DAWs, but I'd also say that it inarguably (not a word) does more than any other DAW and is, therefore, more powerful. I also think it has the best by far bundled plugs of any DAW. And, unlike PT, you're not bound to Digidesign's hardware- in ...

no, of course Ian Curtis didn't thing with those things in mind and I wasn't suggesting he does. Most don't. And they're generally better off for it. However, it happens naturally regardless. That stuff is hard-wired into us on a certain level, whether you know the words for it or not. In fact, I'd ...

the whole debate of whether pros use firewire or not is pointless and maybe even a little elitist. The point is, A LOT A LOT of Mac users of all kinds rely on firewire on a daily-usage basis. The only thing I'm thinking is that Apple ran some numbers and SOMEHOW, them dropping firewire equaled great...

I don't know, but I still have a 1999 sawtooth G4 and it still runs PERFECTLY, and it's been exposed to incredible amounts of dust, cigarette smoke, humidity, spills, etc., continuously for almost 10 years. It's even been dropped. My MDD dual core G4 from several years ago functions perfectly and ha...

Ian Curtis was pitchy but beyond that his timbre was abrasive- the forced volume of a baritone trying to be loud. Clarification: Joy Division is one of my favorite bands. Anyway, as someone already pointed out, he wasn't generally atonal. In fact, he was often strictly modal- either Aeloian, Dorian,...

1. Velvet Underground & Nico & White Light/White Heat I bunch em' into one because they were equally important. These albums changed the way I thought about songwriting and instrument playing and singing permanently. It was like a Rosetta Stone for pop music aesthetics for me. I remember the first t...

Yeah, the tendency to turn everything up digitally instead of just using THE VOLUME KNOB is egregious. Like when I sometimes do sort of cheapo mastering for friend's bands, I tell them "PLEASE give me a quiet mix. If it's already peaking at -1 there's not a lot I can do to it to make it 'mastery'." ...

No it doesn't support any time code I don't think but you could do something like bounce the backing track starting at 11111 or whatever, do your overdubs, and bounce the overdubs from the same starting point, individually. Before I had Logic I did that all the time and never had sync problems. Mayb...

Is your A/D converter capable of running things at 96K? Cause if it's not, useless discussion anyway. I haven't recorded at fancy sample rates for a long time but I seem to recall that if I set the Audiofire to run at 96, Logic would automatically detect it. But try "project setup" or something in t...

if you have a mac, you can just use Garageband for a bit. Free, and it now records at 24 bits.

Yeah, try unplugging any USB and firewire peripherals, and try defragging your hardrive. And DEFINITELY try increasing the buffer setting- that's always the first culprit.
