Re: Whoa.... free Tracktion
Wing: The reason I asked was not to question the credibility of the program, but more or less to evaluate how well it would apply to my purposes. From what I gleaned reading about it on the mackie site, it's more for midi/looping than for full track editing. Will it bog down if it throw a dozen 3-5 ...

Re: Whoa.... free Tracktion
I do most of my recording with dry signals on a digital multitracker... i want a computer program on my pc that will allow me to dump between 8-10 .wav files into an editor and add effects, mix, pan, etc... anybody who uses tracktion a lot, would it be a good program for that kind of thing?

Re: Your favorite slide guitar solo
I agree with any and all who mention George Harrison for this honor. Anyone pay attention to his slide playing on the only beatles reunion track "Free As A Bird"? Just the subtleties and richness of his slide licks on that are awesome. (Even though we obviously won't know what John thought about it,...

Re: Californication RHCP horrible mastering...
First of all... besides a few amazingly mixed/mastered albums, I've never heard an album that sounds incredible on every sound system I pop it into. Mastering, I think, should be relative to the feeling/genre of the record. I want my freaking Smashing Pumpkins album to be mastered insanely loud. My ...

Re: Favorite Drum Sounds
The floor tom on "Summer's Cauldron" by XTC off Skylarking might just be the voice of God . I'm really diggin' the track "Coast to Coast" on Elliott Smith's latest with Drozd from the Flaming Lips on one channel (Left?), and the drummer from Earlimart on the other channel. Wicked snare combo...

Elliott's Jackpot Sessions?
This question is for Larry. I know I asked about "Amity" before, but this is another question I had: Some dude on Elliott Smith's messageboard is hocking files from a P2P program that are touted as being the "Jackpot Sessions". He has like 22 songs or some ridiculous amount like that. Did Elliott re...

Re: The Friendly Candy Company (yeah, right!)
The only good stations on the radio anymore are KCRW (LA), KEXP (SEA), and 94.9 (SD).
Everything else is bullshit. Period.

Re: Suggestions on a Twelve track recording session
Using tons of mics on drums is overrated. Especially if you want that true "live" band sound. I've gotten my best drum sounds with between 2 and 4 mics. Less is more. Using good mics and good placement can save you the trouble of wiring twice as many mediocre mics to cover the same sounds. This is w...

Re: Humble Room Studio Pictures
Ohmuhgawd PLEASE get that Tandberg off the skinny barstool! S/H I laugh in the face of danger!!! But, actually, now that you mention it, I've been trying to convince my wife to give me the other TV tray  that would hold the weight of the Tandberg more evenly. But, I convinced myself that bars...

Re: Humble Room Studio Pictures
This is pretty freaky! I have an mr8 sitting on a little wooden stand/table exactly like you have! Sorry, that just weirded me out. Did you get it at Walmart as well? Nothing beats a bargain deal! It's actually a TV Tray, but I use it as a stand for my MR8. What's the effect over the image? Irrelev...

Re: Humble Room Studio Pictures
Looks very cool. As a bedroom studio coneussior (SP?) myself, I must say I am quite impressed. Question: On the first picture, you have a pair of those (I believe) Audio Technica ST-90's? Am I right on that? I stumbled upon a pair of those. I like them for toms, but is there any other practical use...

Hey all room recording hacks like me! Show of some pictures of your humble room setups. This'll be fun to see what we all make do with, and to make you large studio people remember your roots. Here's some links to shots of my spare bedroom which houses my recording setup: http://sky.pro...

I recorded this on my Roland VS880R about a year ago now, I think it sounds pretty raw and smooth for digital...although this mp3 turned out a little light on the bass end. Just pump the bass on your soundcard and tell me what you guys think... http://sky.prohosting.com/silv615/music/i_never_knew_wh...
