I have a "planet waves" strap with a pad on it that is marvelous, even for long standing-up gigs. I play an LP too, which are heavier than hell, and i have no problems at all.

This usually helps for me: For the first rhythm part (acoustic or electric) double track the guitars with one panned hard right and hard left.
