Thanks Gregg.
The one I was looking at has the little sliders, good to know they're fussy.

Thanks folks! Yeah, I went ahead and ordered the Beyers, figure I'll see how they do with the Echo Audiofire. Gregg -- Is the rolls you're talking about the HA43 Pro? Small simple unit, 1 headphone in and 4 out? I was thinking I might go that way if I need an amp. thanks again, real helpful response...

Recommend a substitute for waves renaissance bass plug?
I'd like to find a vst plug for pc (cubase, sonar) that does the kind of bass enhancement that the Waves Renaissance Bass (and MaxBass?) do. The plug seems to create higher harmonics somehow, so that bass instruments show up better on small speakers that don't have much low end extension. I may end ...

need a separate headphone amp to drive hi-imp phones?
Hi -- been trying to budget some home studio improvements. Mike Senior's mix book recommends having a good pair of headphones as a secondary way to monitor, for those of us who can't shell out for good nearfields and room treatment yet. I've read several places that some of the more popular phones (...

For some odd reason, I was thinking that the re10 was a not-quite-up-to-spec re15, the 10 being originally priced lower for this reason, like stale baked goods, Likewise the 11 and the 16.top_ape wrote:The RE10 however is basically an RE15. The RE11 and RE16 are close cousins
Does this ring a bell at all?

A vague warning, based on harsh experience: Make sure you get good information/professional advice about how to keep sound from moving in and out of whatever ventilation and air conditioning setup you choose. A bandmate and I once rented a play/live space in Oakland, custom-built for musicians . . ....

Slighty off-topic, but might help: Have you demagnetized the heads lately? If the machine you've got has less high end than it used to, that's an easy fix to try. The Hand-D Mag is one demagnetizer people seem to agree on, if you need one. You could clean the heads too, if you haven't lately. But de...

Buy an alignment tape from MRL.
Last I knew, you can get them on the phone if you're not sure what to buy. The 5050 was a very common machine.

Re overdubbing on a multitrack reel-to-reel: Be aware that any tracks you're listening to while overdubbing might be heard with a slight delay if you monitor those tracks off the playback head. . . . You should monitor off the record head instead (even though the fidelity of what you hear might be a...

I have a d12e (a d12 with an xlr) and it certainly has lows -- but whether the peak is around 100-150 or at 60-80, I couldn't say. Sounds good on big boomy hand drums, where what you want is the boom. Never liked it as the only kick mic, but works well on batter side with a 421 in front, stuck in th...

How much does an artist traditionally make per individual radio listener? Per person dancing to one of their songs at a wedding that paid their SOCAN/ASCAP fee? Per shopping mall customer who hears one of their songs over the PA system? The big picture question is, Are very good musicians, with, le...

If this link is right, spotify doesn't really get artists paid at any meaningful level. $0.00029 per play for the musicians?! Spotify is still the right direction though: Pay for instant download onvenience rather than for a "tangible sound object." Preferably come up with a download file format tha...
