SM57s(I5's if you can get them) when presented with few options can work out well...

...but AT4050's, are yet again my new mic of choice for this and many other apps.

call me an asshat, but these might be to 414s what the I5 is to the sm57...prettier and more neutral.

knowing the difference between the different edit modes(grid, shuffle, slip, spot) is a big one, and knowing when to use to each one to your advantage...the multi-tool/smart tool can be your best friend or worst enemy depending on your mouse.

unless you are going for something in particular, a bunch of lower mids(300-700hz) can usually be killed without anything bad happening. i find myself, in dense mixes, worrying about what is masking the click of the kick drum instead of the lows. Guitars, vocals, and most(!) keys usually dont need a...

Are you using pro-tools? you can bounce down the drums and import them, then disable the drum tracks instead of deleting them to create more unused tracks. then if you want to change something you can disable the new tracks and re-able the drum tracks and bounce again etc. You Dont actually need to...

make sure that the tape is threaded correctly on the machine....some machines will engage into play for a few inches and then stop if the tape isnt threaded correctly, or if the tension sensors are malfunctioning.

it is very important that the snare be tuned properly. You can usually get away with toms that are a little too flat or ringy or dead,etc... but a poorly tuned snare can quickly turn into a sloppy mess, espercially once compression, eq, fx,et al... a well constructed drum is normally easy to tune, a...

Ive got a fair bit of damage in my right ear that comes from several ear infections and ruptured ear drums as a child, as well as a problem with the drainage of my inner ear. Usually the high end rolloff is not noticeable, but my right ear has a hard time dealing with pressure changes, and sometimes...
