Re: OK so whats the song you're most ashamed to admit you Lo
on a semi-related note, not to hijack the thread, but a friend of mine has these things called "supermarket songs". They are the songs that you'd turn off in one second in your car, but, for some reason, when you hear them in the supermarket, you just think, "ok, yeah, it's allright". For me it's a ...

Re: What Did You Work On Today? 1-04-04
today was one of those days that I worked my knukles to the bone, but am thrilled that I get to do this as a job. I met my friends at 10am for breakfast, hit the studio and recorded one song. (all the mics were still setup from a previous session). Everybody else listened to the previous sessions wh...

Re: Help with DIN to stereo XLR cable
hey, the image is "past the daily usage limit". I'd bet that it's going to be this: Left XLR: Pin 1 goes to DIN2 (bare) Pin 2 goes to DIN4 (red) Pin 3 goes to DIN1 (black) Right XLR Pin 1 goes to DIN2 (bare) Pin 2 goes to DIN3 (blue) Pin 3 goes to DIN5 (green) but I'd really love to see the schemati...

80's red knob fender twin question
Anyone got a late 80's/early 90's fender twin? the one with the red knobs? I've got a question...when I switch from the clean channel to the other channel, the amp has no sound for about a half second. I was wondering if this is typical? Or is something up in the switching circuit? It uses an IC ( i...

Re: 60 cycle hum conundrum
Garrett, a few questions about the hum... does it change when you are near amps, lights, etc? If you stand in one position and turn 360 degrees, does the hum change as you turn? Is it really loud? Or just kinda loud? Does the hum stop when you touch the strings? If it does, it might be a bad ground....

Re: TAPE CALIBRATION QUESTIONS
First off, I'm really not familiar with that machine, but here goes: After you've adjusted the 1K tone (at 0db) and then played the -10dB 12.5k tone, does the meter ride at about -10? Or higher? Lower? (the 12.5k tone, that is) I'd say try and adjust it for -10, but you are probably going to find th...

Re: tall rackspaces
if you do get one that is computer surplus, just make sure that it fits 19" rack equipment across the rails, and not one of those wider ( i think it's 23? it is wider than 19 inches. possibly they are 21"?) server/telecom racks. The people that I'm currently doing some work for had this happen recen...

Re: musician jokes....yes.
What is the sound of perfect pitch? The accordion hitting the banjo in the dumpster. (I own both accordions and a banjo.) ....and now the highbrow musician symphony joke what is the sound of a semi-tone? two oboes playing the same note. (oboes are very hard to tune) ( i was a stage manager for a sym...

Re: finding a cheap oscilloscope
I don?t really know much about o-scopes, other than how to check azimuth, but I?ve got a really old HP and it seems to work fine. I think I paid $25 for it. I asked a tech (that I took my machine to when I first got it) about them and he said that old ones are fine, just ?slow? (though I?m not quit...

Re: finding a cheap oscilloscope
man, i'm tired. i meant to also add that leads should be available at rat shack, but they are carrying less and less components and stuff like this and selling just phones. There's always mail-order. New leads are cheap, if I recall, maybe $15 for a pair? Like I said, I'm really tired and I shouldn'...

Re: finding a cheap oscilloscope
blue, be on the lookout for a two input one with "dual trace" and X-Y abilities. This will keep your option open for more things. The dual trace means you can have both probes on doing different things on the screen at the same time, and X-Y lets you do both inputs on either axis so you can do the l...

Re: Alignment / Level question
i think so. the thing that i think is weird is that possibly an AC voltmeter acts as a load and can change the reading? there's that whole thing about the .775 across a 600 ohm load equaling 1dBu...if you've got a scope, you could check and see the difference. although, really, i bet 0.316 on the me...

Re: musical dreams
Other dreams are often I am on stage performing with some of my favorite artists. I have similar dreams sometimes, but when I'm playing with these bands, in the middle of the song, i realize that I don't know the chords. Or sometimes I dream that I'm playing the guitar left handed, and in the middl...

Re: beat detective:an industry failsafe or helpfull tool
I think it's up to us to stop this crap. It's not so much the tools that bother me, it's the abuse of the tools. I have used pitch correction to save a track, and I have edited drum fills. I don't auto-tune everything and I don't use beat detective. I feel weird about using a metronome or click. I g...
