Woah!
Thanks for all the info there! I'll probably shoot for x models, as down the road, I might want to use them for drum bus compression.

dbx 160a vs 160x
Looking at getting two used comps for my home studio. Gonna keep them patched into two channels of my Toft ATB-16 for vocal and bass cutting. Friends are all saying that 160x units are the best bang for the buck... But I see a lot of 160A units out there too. Same used price range... None of them co...

R?de support
I'll second the vote for support. I bought a used original Nt2 (looks like u87) from a friend. He smoked in his home studio, and I noticed some grime on the head basket. Also, speckles on the diaphragm. I paid very little for the mic, so I wasn't too worried. I'd read about gentle cleaning methods f...

I'm in more-than-partial agreement with Nick. They don't fly very well with Logic 9.x in 10.8.... via USB. If you plug-them in via MIDI.... they're rock solid, but I only learned that after MANY hours of exhaustive testing and frustrated posts in this very forum. But once I switched to connecting th...

thanks all...
Thanks for the well-wishes, everybody. the response I got on reddit was overwhelming and very helpful. Interesting fact I discovered through all this. The reason that this is happening is simply because the new trains are AC powered, and the lines in Philly are DC lines (up until now all of our trai...

Philly's new trains throw so much RF that I have to move.
my reddit post about the interference caused by our town's shiny new trains.

M-Audio ProFire
I'm about to send my M-Audio ProFire 2626 to BLA... I have a friend who swears by his BLA 002 and the BLA guys say the 2626 is one of their best-sounding conversions. Also... Guitar Centers are (when they have them) blowing out new-in-box 2626 units for $300... So, for under $900 you can have a pret...

Waveburner Replacement
hey there... Yeah, this has been frustrating for a lot of folks who worked in WB. I will say this; Waveburner was kinda cool, but it had some frustrating drawbacks, in the way navigation worked and whatnot... But I feel for the folks who are buying Logic Pro through the App Store, cause yeah... Wave...

mic balance
Gregg, thanks! To answer the question about balance; the condenser was set about 80% of where the ribbon was. Honestly, I was 95% happy with the sound out of the beyerdynamic by itself, but the condenser gave me a little more air and some key-clicks that I really liked.

Thanks! + More sounds
Thanks folks! I really appreciate the compliments. I just posted a second snippet of another song: This one is an instrumental that's just full of cool horn solos. Itchin' in the Kitchen Again, any thoughts or feedback is entirely appreciated. I recorded all of the horn solos with a Beyerdynamic m16...

Finally finished this record! Philly-based Funk-Rock
This month, I finished a record for a band that's been picking away at a project for almost 2 years with me... Glad to be finished, and we're really happy with it. I'd love to hear any/all feedback on the sound.

There's two hard drives in there. Both are ATA drives. One's 40GB and the other is 160GB. So it's got that goin' for it.

Free to Good Home: Mac G4 800Mhz with 17" Apple Display
Hey there, This was given to me by a friend. I thought I could turn it into a DSD burning station, but it turns out that the old PCI-based DSD solution is much harder to find than I thought. Machine runs 10.4.11 and the optical drive is a bit finicky... Keyboard / Mouse / Apple Display 17" is includ...

MIDI for the win!
Nick! Thanks for your advice about using a midi i/o box and skipping the built-in USB connection on the mackie unit. The units are working perfectly now, as I've hooked them up via MIDI only through an m-audio 4x4 i/o. It's frustrating that the system had such a weird issue.. but I'm glad it's worki...
