Again, it was Wes Dooley of AEA in a Mix Magazine article... not me saying that. He's pretty reputable though and the article wasn't out of line so just sayin.

Who would be better to do a re-ribboning... Clarence Kane at ENAK, Steve Sank who now carries on his father's legacy, or Wes Dooley at AES? I heard that Sank had some major problems a few years back and people were accusing him of being a crook. Any insight?

Yea, but surprisingly, the ribbon sounds like it might be in good shape. The wav file demonstrated a nice frequency range... I will have to do more tests after some preliminary servicing though of course. That will include spraying the switch, replacing the cord, and checking it is wired for proper ...

But I read in Mix Magazine where Wes Dooley said if DC through a winding magnetizes the core material of the output transformer and it becomes less linear. So are we really out of the water with the phantom used with ribbon mics issue? Also, I was reading someones educated guess that: "DC can't get ...

Scorred an RCA 77-DX Ribbon for $450!

... in TV gray finish. Looks like it's all there except for one of the thumbscrews. All I should have to do is replace the cracking cable, get the missing thumbscrew, bend the cable tension clamp back, and give it a good clean (inside electronics and outside cosmetics). Then I can give the ribbon a ...

RCA 77-D parts available? Considering purchase!

Hi, can you get parts for the old RCA 77-DX ribbon mics? I have a chance to buy one that has what looks like some issues with the case. Heard wav sample of mic and it sounds fine although even if it didn't, I could re-ribbon it I guess... If I can get if for cheap enough, it might be my one and only...

Lyman, that makes sense. Crow, I looked at the ZOOM H4N and now I'm drooling... this means I have to decide between getting something that is either affordable so I don't have to worry too much or something more expensive that I have to worry about but has basically all the features I could want. Wh...

Hm.... the DR-680 is too expensive for what I need. I see Tascam has a few models of small recorders like the DR-07. Some look like they are sold for guitarists and others for field recording... I don't understand what the diff is?

Which Handheld Digital Recorder To Get?

Hi, I was thinking of getting a handheld digital recorder and noticed that Zoom, Tascam, etc. make them. Thing is Tascam makes a few models and I'm not sure what to choose. My uses are for recording my band at shows, and in practice. I want to be able to plug mics/line inputs. It would be great to d...
