thanks for the GC tips, nclayton.... i have had trouble with the GC stuff, very erratic results. if you need tiny drill bits cheap you can get various sizes (3/64 on down) from welding supply shops - just ask for welding tip cleaners and you get an aluminum pen-type tube with screw-off top of about ...

most of this is synth stuff: 1994, $30 Yamaha CS-15 analog synth, at a guitar store.... they couldn't get it to make a noise, all the knobs and switches and sliders confused them so i took it off thier hands.... i still have it, the portamento is actng kinda funky though. about the same time i had a...

i thought the early Steppenwolf stuff was done on a Lowrey organ with a Leslie.... i recall seeing that somewhere. Yeah, but my favorite b3 recordings are in mono (or more accurately, panned hard to one side in the stereo field). I was listening to Steppenwolf, and the guy may not be a Jimmy Smith, ...

Re: will this damage my amp?

I have been putting a patch cable from the second input of my Bassman's Normal channel into the first input of the Bass channel when I want extra gain. I have only done this for short periods of time to get that sound for recordings. Now we are starting to play live and I want that tone on stage. I...

I would think twice about the old hardware-based samplers from Akai, Yamaha, Roland, Casio, etc., because the memory is incredibly tiny -- you're storing to floppy disk, if you can imagine that. My Casio FZ-20m, which was one of the s900's competitors, has 29 seconds of mono recording time at most....

the PM3k is a somewhat reviled console as far as sonics go.... thin, kinda crappy EQ...not anything like the all-discrete/inductor EQ/transformer input PM1000, or the later high performance op-amp/inductor EQ/transformer input of the PM2000.

well, your inserts are mono no matter how you slice it - tip is usually send, ring return back to the channel and the sleeve is the common ground. the dBx has two non-independent channels, so you would use an insert cable for each channel. bear in mind you probably wouldn't want to send two differen...

i'd get another external SCSI if i were you and back up immediately. i'm sure you can copy to the drive somehow, or if not then load the programs and then save to the new drive. my use of ak.sys is quite limited, all i can tell you is that it's slow and i have found it to be somewhat unreliable. i'd...

i rarely hear anything about the dbx 164. i love that box. i've been told that it is just the stereo version of the 163, but mine sounds a bit smoother than the 163s that i have used. anyway, it's dirt cheap and sounds quite nice on bass and kick when they benefit from a slow attack. yep, i have on...

Joel, I totally concur with you. Supposedly these are the flattest powered nearfields on the market too. What seems to be strange to me on most powered monitors (Genelecs specifically come to mind) is how whatever hype and tearing mid-range you might have in a mix is completely subdued and sucked i...
