Let me put in my two cents, if you don't mind. I have a UA LA610 as my main preamp and I love it. If you want to hear exactly what it sounds like, go to iTunes, look up my name: corin ashley and listen to the track "Little Runaround". That was done the day I got the compressor and the acoustic guita...

I went to the Apple store last week "to do some research" with absolutely no intention of buying the 20" iMac 2.4 Ghz Intel dual core, but it's just such a sexy looking beast. I had to have it. So far it's fast as all hell and I think i'll just stick with Tiger until I hear that Leopard is cool with...

And just to be clear, in case anybody starts reading in the middle of this thread- none of my software is cracked or stolen, I've paid for it all. I was just in such a bad place last night when I wrote that. This morning, with a clearer head, perhaps I can expound in a way that will actually be cons...

I really hate recording on computers

I swear, it's the #1 thing that keeps me from actually accomplishing anything with music. Every aspect of it is so goddamn annoying and not fun. I so envy people who can actually create in digital realm. All I ever try to do is use it like a multitrack recorder and it's still too much to deal with. ...

I did buy it new and I got an ignition pack DVD to install all the plug ins and little 3x5 cards describing some of them (mostly how to upgrade to the full version) and an 8 1/2 by 11 sheet describing what they do, but no red card. I went back to GC today to ask about it. So, I'm missing one red car...

Oh man, thank you! I ain't got no red card, but that all sounds good. I have a yellow card that has my Registration ID and it also has a sticker on it with a serial# and a 11 digit code that says REV J after it. What do you think? I have used pro tools before so I know all about those demo only thin...

really need some quick MBox/ILok help

I just upgraded to a brand new IMac (a very sexy beast with tons of memory, fast CPU, all that) and a new MBox 2 which came with some bundled software. Thing is, how do you authorize these plug ins? My old mBox came with registration cards with authorization codes for the bundle. This has cards, but...

It wouldn't be anything like the Martin you lost, but a Gibson J 200 is THE sound, if you ask me. MInd you, not all Gibsons are created equal, but if you get a good one, it's magic.

I second the Gamble & Huff nomination and it'd be great to get Thom Bell in on that action as well.

Plus, mics aside, Patti Smith is still totally killer live. She's really sincerely happy about being on stage and reaches out to the audience.. Great gig.

Sadly, my transaction with him was through Craigslist and the link expired, so I didn't even have a way to get in touch with him. I misplaced his phone number, but I dunno, i didn't really expect to have to chase some dude around about a phaser, you know? It's funny, I asked a frined of mine from Ph...

Mutron repair

Who in the world could fix my Mutron Phaser? i bought it from a drummer named Andy Kravitz in Philly on craigslst. If anybody knows Andy, thank him for the broken phaser and tell him to enjoy my $125. The knobs broken off at the surface should have clued in even a drummer that it was busted. Ahh, li...

Nilsson- Trident studios '73, Nicky hopkins, Ringo, Ken Scot

Just stumbled upon this footage of Harry Nilsson working at trident in the early 70s with an all- star cast, naturally. He discusses recording in the voiceover. Some might find it boring- I have a very high tolerance for Nilsson. There are 5 clips.

Plastic Ono Band is well worth having on vinyl- and as orignal a British pressing as possible, too. That is sucha great sounding album- so minimal and direct. Yeah, they shouldn't mess with those mixes. This isn't some second rate pop star we're talking about (cue Hammertime to say that he's overrat...
