I fine with that answer, I'm not opposed to treating with 703, and I have a client with good carpentry skills who can build frames etc for traps as a barter for time, so that's very accessible. I'm just trying to learn more about this stuff, and my own reasoning suggested that drapes might be helpfu...

using heavy drapes for sound treatment (mix room)
I was thinking that hanging heavy drapes, with a velvet-like texture, might be an effective sound treatment for my side walls. The way I want to orient my mix position, what will be one side wall has a window, and the other has closet with sliding doors. So having drapes that could be opened or clos...

KRK V8 monitor questions - not hearing enought LF
I don't hear low frequencies as well as I would like to in my mix room. It is possible that I need room treatment, and I plan on working on that and monitor placement in the near future. But I am wondering if part of my difficulty is with the monitors themselves. I am using KRK V8s. I would love to ...

So Genelecs and Mackies have a lot of "boom and sizzle"? That explains something.. I just had a project mastered by a guy who was using Genelecs, I'd guess they were 8" 2-way (also in a marginally treated plaster rectangle of a room) and they certainly were bright! It was actually this experience th...

Any guidelines on choosing monitors for mastering vs mixing? Are there specific marques which orient their speakers in that direction? I would think that it comes down to the same thing mixing comes down to: get the room acoustics as good as you can, and choose the flattest monitors you can for the ...

"Clearing house" for diy room treatment?
I am sure there is a wealth of information online about diy room treatment. What I wonder is if there is any "aggregator" that collects links to this info all in one place (I know, it's called The Google) and perhaps offers reviews, feedback, etc. Anyone know of anything out there like this? I can d...

So when I master my own stuff (I'm a long-time hobbyist 15+ years now) and share it on CD with a friend, the feedback sometimes is "yeah, I love the way it sounds but it needs to be louder". And I'm left thinking...then turn up the volume knob on your stereo, right? I remember Let It Bleed * had on...
