you make a good case. You want details? All right. Pre-Zep: drums sounded like drums, and were mixed together with the other instruments. Post-Zep: everyone gets a hard-on over "how huge the drums sound, dude". And if you like drums that sound like cannons and are mixed loud enough to suppla...

"Led Zeppelin" drum sounds have ruined rock 'n rol

Yeah, I said it. And I'm right. "Lead drums".

This thread is gonna be awesome.

Like, "enough gain for a ribbon" headroom/noise?

I haven't settled on an app yet.

The 8-channel has been on my radar for some time now. Those are supposed to have good pres and AD/DA, right?

buzzaudioguy - how do you like the FirePod pres? I'm a little leery of them being too "prosumer" to cut a record with, but I'm interested to hear your take on them.

Yeah, the "preventive measures/tools/peace of mind" list is long and distinguished already. I'm referring more to devices to get audio into a laptop, pres that are rugged enough to take travel well and still sound good, etc.

Going Mobile.

If you were assembling a rig for the purpose of recording bands on location (churchs, practice spaces, grain silos, whatever), what would you throw in the rack(s)? I'm talking I/O, pres (if not included in the I/O unit(s)), external A/D-D/A if necessary, other outboard, etc. What I'm not talking is ...

FS: Ampex 440 parts

I have two 440 transports in great shape, as well as a box full of miscellaneous parts - spare motors, rollers, headstacks, the works. Sorry - no record electronics.

Buy as much or as little as you want. PM me for details.

Tony [drumsound] can vouch for me if you're nervous about online shopping.

Adam -

Will you absolutely not ship, even if someone were to send you money for that purpose?

Re: Looking for bass amp info (valve)

Ampeg is the benchmark. V4Bs are about 100W; I recommend at least 200W though. One loud drummer will ruin everything.

Other good ones to watch for: Trace Elliot V Series (V4, V6, V8), Mesa/Boogie Buster, Sunn, Fender Dual Showman, the new Traynor tube amps, etc...

Getting a cell phone message out of the phone?

I was "serenaded" with a verse and chorus of "Stayin' Alive" by a friend of mine, in full falsetto glory. I need to preserve this.

Can I rig something out of the headset jack into an interface of some sort?

Anyone had to do this before?
