Multitrack tape archiving
Greet's! I know I saw a link for this service somewhere, but am at a loss. I need to find a qualified service to dump old (condition unknown-client tapes) 2" 16 and 24 track tapes to digital. I read of a house which specialized in this, but can't find it at the moment. I was hoping to find the follo...

Re: I'm scared of phase problems with drum micing...
Perhaps it would serve you well to prioritize your mics-ie, get a great image from the oh's and build it from there, or get a great sound sound from one mic oh, then add the kik mic, then a shoulder mic etc....just get a good starting point then turn on the other mics. If you just start moving mics ...

Re: All this talk of Phase
Unless you have a studio lackey, try getting some decent isolation headphones (shure e3) and get into the tracking room (btw, hearing phase anomalies can be very different depending on the primary frequency of the source). Try micing the kik with one mic, now take a similar mic (though not necessary...

Re: Beeping sound coming in on AC line
I have heard of various devices causing "noise pollution" on the ac line-ie. electric saws at construction sites a half block away. If it happens at regular times, it may be a piece of gear or equipment being used by a neighbor, or neighboring company. While new isolation transformers are expensive,...

Re: BLUE world headquarters
Eric's a nice fellow. That was probably the US headquarters...Baltic..Latvian...etc etc...you can see the real headqurters on the web. You know how distribution offices work-how much space do mics take up anyways! Wish I could find out (how many Blue Bottles can I fit into this closet...). Now go do...

Re: Cleaning the soundcraft
Not familiar with the spirit series, but on a ghost, I spent hours tracking down a bad cap, fixed the board, only to find it would have been cheaper (in time) to buy a whole new card! If the channels are on separate cards attached by ribbon cable, just get a few spares and swap it out. Contact SC to...

Re: Transformer vs. transformerless mics, a question
The difference lies in how the mic's output is decoupled allowing for balanced signal. The advantages/disadvantages of either one are not easily quantifiable based on the mic design itself, as the input impedance and topology of the pre will greatly affect the sound of the mic, and then one must als...

Re: $1100 for a replacement A&H power supply??
If you are feeling solder savvy, you can get very nice linear power supplies (ie.international power) which are the raw supplies in a frame, and then mount them in a box-you need to add the switching and fuses. If there are shortcomings to the original power supply, this may improve the sound of the...

Re: tele neck in a strat body
Re. intonation-just measure on the high "e" side of things, and make sure that the distance from the 12th fret to the saddle is 12 1/2" with the saddle extended fully. This should give you anough play for various string gauges-double check my math as it's been a while...scale length==25 1/2" divide ...

Re: tele neck in a strat body
They technically are the same fit, though it's not uncommon to have to do a little bit of filing or shimming on the neck joint for a proper fit. If it's too tight, try to keep the top part of the joint (towards thu upper cutaway) true and straight, that it will act as a guide for the neck's alignmen...

Re: Calling all Space Echo owners!
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the gentleman at fuzzorama, who is a very nice person, was eminently unqualified to fix not one, but 2 space echoes, both of which are still suffereing the after effects of his handiwork. Again, he is a very nice person and may have gotten better, but...it too...

Re: shielding a strat - HELP!
I think star grounding will do little extra in this situation. If you have properly foiled the inside of the cavity, and soldered all that foil together, just make sure to ground the foil as well as running a bus wire between all the switches, etc, and your grounding should be done. If hum is still ...

Re: Bailing from digi mixer, going analog. Preamp question.
I have an early ghost which shipped with a switching supply. I had read on a group somewhere this was a thing to do, and surely so. The improved linear supply gave me much more openness. Re. summing, I'm sure it can be improved upon, but not without sacrificing other features at that price point(eq,...

Re: Bailing from digi mixer, going analog. Preamp question.
Please let me preface this by saying, I think you are making a wise choice, and will be pleased... Re. the Ghost, or any other board for that matter, you should not be passing through the pres when mixing down. The board has a separate input for such things, allowing a slightly less cluttered signal...
