Re: "Unsettling" recordings

Bjork's Medulla. Seriously freaked out my dogs (who never respond to what's playing on the stereo) and put me on edge, too (much more than Bjork normally does).

Re: Goddamned Frank Sinatra

If you want to learn more, Charles Granata's book Sessions with Sinatra is one of the best books on recording -- given Frank's career, really the history of recording -- and an artist at work that I know of. (Granata's book on Pet Sounds is very good, too.) There's a lot of product out there, so may...

Re: Classic recordings that are out of tune

"Has no one mentioned that gawdawful solo in The Troggs 'Wildthing'?
Talk about a teeth clenching moment."

"what is it, a recorder?"
It's an ocarina, sir.

Re: The Worst of the Best

Hang around long enough, and you will lose the thread ... in public ... for everyone to see (and hear). The real question is, did any of the greats not lose the thread at some point? Louis Armstrong lost it. Sinatra sure did (several times). Ex-Beatles all did. Dylan did (several times). Maybe Duke ...

Re: Does anyone record mulitple Bass guitar tracks?

Cold Turkey by John Lennon has double tracked basses, one far left, one far right.

It only took me 25 years to figure that out.

Re: Guitar crunch advice

Stock pickups in a $400 Epi are not going to be anything all that special. You could get him a pair of Duncans to replace them.

Re: Technical Information on old Albums

All the old Command label LPs -- Enoch Light and Light Brigade play Provacative Percussion Volume 7 featuring Al Caiola and Dick Hyman, etc. -- had extensive tech notes. These were prime examples of space-age bachelor pad music as stereo demonstration records. The technical detail was included I gue...

Re: "Dear God" vs. "Mermaid Smiles"

dave gregory. anybody know what he's doing now? He has a web site -- http://guitargonauts.com. The coolest feature is Dave's Pick of the Month, in which he talks about one of the many, many cool guitars in his collection, it's history, what he's done with and to them, etc. FWIW, I like Dear God as ...

Re: Where to start on Lee "Scratch" Perry?

I'd start here: http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&uid=CASS80309131319&sql=Agbdyylk3xpmb (Lee Perry & Friends: the Singles Collection Anthology, 1968 to 1979) It charts the arc from brilliant producer to unhinged visionary (or whatever the sonic equalivalent of that word is). It leaves you wan...

Pictures can be found here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... me=rvi:1:1

I got a pair off eBay a while back ($80 sounds about right), but I never got past the weird (five? six? prong) plug. Any advice on that score?

Re: Not so dry basement. HELP Please!

I hate to be a downer, but I think your options are limited and expensive. On our street all the basements flood whenever we get one of those hundred-year storms we seem to be getting every year or two now -- all the basements except mine. This is because the previous owner of the house had the wisd...
